Charging consumers without their authorization is fraudulent.

Charging consumers without disclosing the terms of your offer is fraudulent.

Automatically sending advertising messages to cell phones is illegal under TCPA.

FTC TSR for "negative-option" telemarketing with "pre-acquired account information" places specific requirements on the telemarketer to make sure that the authorization is "verifiable" to be valid, and defines "verifiable authorization".  Lacking the required "verifiable authorization", any claimed authorization is invalid, and any resulting charges are unauthorized and fraudulent.

Today I got a txt message on my cell-phone from "athedo@hotmail.com", an email address I have never seen before. The message read: "send the txt message LISA4 to the number 70542 to help vote me as the hottest iphone girl." As you can see it's a ploy to get me to signup without any knowledge of the service, which is obviously very illegal...

I sent a txt back to athedo@hotmail.com, my reply read: "I do not know you, do not ever txt me again. You were warned." They did not reply back.

here are a few things that are especially annoying about this...

    1) I DID NOT signup or use any service from this company. EVER!
    2) I NEVER give my phone number when I sign up on web forms. I am an adult and certainly no fool, I have been using the internet since before google and yahoo were around...
    3) I am very sure no one I know would sign me up as a joke, and besides very few people even know my number, perhaps as few as 10 people have this number. (i'm paranoid hehe)
    4) I am on the government's do-not-call list, perhaps this is an attempt to get around that?

Sooo the question is WHO sent me this txt message... Is this an email/txt sent by the company itself or a random trouble maker? Regardless, I WILL find the persons responsible for this.

These people scammed my son after a Facebook quiz he took.  It told him to text 70542 to get the results, and when he did he received a random text that had nothing to do with the quiz.  They texted him a couple times and he finally answered back, telling them he didn't know who they were and to stop texting or he would call the police.  They didn't text him again, but we just got our bill and they put a $9.99 charge on it.  I contacted my provider and they removed it for me & blocked all 3rd party contact, but I'm definitely reporting this company.

I've been receiving  messages over Aol Instant Messenger (AIM) from a friend I haven't talked to in years, stating I should take this facebook IQ test. It's a tinyurl.com link that resolves to secureiqtest.com.
They come pretty regularly, and always with the same pregenerated message. She hasn't responded back to my messages or really been online at all that I can see, leading me to believe it's a virus infection using her account to spam the message out.

Quick update: It was a virus infection. Her account got stolen and used to spam the link. Spammers took the time to reset her password and hinder her attempt to get her account back.

Do you know what the virus is called? A friend of mine is experiencing the same issue but a full system scan with AVG Free and malwarebytes turned up nothing.

It could be that the virus isn't even on her own computer but someone else's she might have logged into aim with. Just curious if you could provide any further insight.

    Thanks.

I've been getting the same annoying IM from a friend's account. I did click on the link, like an idiot, but did not submit any information. Did you ever find out how to get this from popping up? If so, could you share what you did and did you report it?
