These people are crazy, a guy named David Jones called me with the same threats of police coming to my work, etc, etc...Anyway I told him I knew it was a scam and to quit calling me.  He proceeded to ask me if I would have sex with him and the size of his [***] (true story!!).  I just hung up.  Now he is giving out my name, work number, AND cell number as a call back so now the people they are trying to victimize are calling me and yelling at me and I have to explain to them that it isn't me, this David Jones guy is upset that I hung up on him and that he was trying to get me to pay up and I didn't pay him any mind.  Not only is it ACS law firm, its other companies, and they're getting more sneaky.  I recently got the same kind of call, a bit less threatening but the same threats, and when I asked them the name of the payday loan company, they gave me a phone number to call to confirm with the company.  I called the number out of curiosity (I don't owe money to any payday loan company) and the number just rings and rings, no voicemail or anything that can let you know where you're calling.  Don't listen to anything they say.  Tell them to send you something in writing and they'll eventually leave you alone.

"ACS Law firm" is just a bunch of crooks calling from India extorting Americans into paying fake "debts".  They use threats of "arrest", or being "sued", combined with harassment of relatives or coworkers, as part of their extortion scheme.

Even if they appeared to have information on some debt you recognize, you wouldn't owe it to them.  There are reports indicating that they are obtaining U.S. consumer information from credit reports, skip-trace services, and phony on-line "payday loan" sites, which would allow them to fake claims that you "owe" them some "debt", using information from your own credit report.

You don't owe them ANYTHING.  All their alleged "debt" claims are fake.

File a fraud complaint with the FBI, although since they're in India, it's not likely anything will happen to them.  They need to be aware that this group of criminals has a new tactic.

Because you are now dealing with obscene calls, as well as aggressive harassment through their disclosure of your number, you should file a police complaint regarding the obscene calls, harassment and extortion attempts, so there is a record of the harassment.

You will also need to notify your employer that you are being harassed by an overseas extortion racket, and that you have filed police and FBI complaints, since they will be dealing with irate callers until these scum move on to something else.

They can't do anything to you but harass you on the phone, but it looks like they are aggressively doing that.  Change your home and cell phone number, get a new unlisted number, and do not have any forward on the old numbers.  If you have a business extension, change it and do not have the new one entered in any company automated directory.  Cut off all contact.

If any calls slip through, hang up.

You should also probably put a fraud alert on your credit reports.

This company almost got me. Well, they did for $100 bucks but I am disputing with my bank. I called the company that they said I owed and found out that I never took the payday loan. I was able to go on their website and print out the proof that I didn't take the loan. I am so pissed. They tortured me for nothing. I hope they rot in hell. What can we do about this company? Can we start a class action lawsuit?

Do not give these scam artists any information. They have obtained personal information illegally and are using it to con people out of money by using threats of jail, court or worse. If you receive a call from ACS (they also go by NCS, CCS, Loanpoint and other names), please file a report with the FBI, FTC and Attorney General for your state. The FBI has information about this scam on their website (Internet Fraud page). These people tend to use generic names such as Smith, Thomas. Cooper, Wilson, etc. They are nothing but a bunch of morons who are too lazy to get an honest job so they defraud innocent people. If they contact you, ask them questions about their company and ask them to send you the information in writing. Chance are they will say they can't do that. If they do, it will be an email from a gmail or hotmail account that is bogus. Tell them that your conversation is being recorded and do it (if you are able to). Advise them you are contacting the FBI. They have the mental capacity of a 4 year old. You may see threads on certain sites stating this is a legit company and to pay the debt. Ignore it. It is one of the moron scam artists trolling these sites trying to get people to fall for it. They call from several different numbers so it is hard to keep up with what number they may use. It may be a local number or toll free number.
