threatening people

Recieved threatening email and when called to verify got 2 different names of a company and 2 different amts owed couldnt tell me when this happened or even what state.  Called and spoke to my local police department and was told it was a scan. And in the process was threatened by these people. He said in 20 minutes police would be here in been almost an hour..
