TRS collection Agency Scam
Complaint
Linda
Country: United States
They call my house 3 or 4 times a day and leave long winded messages and leave a 1-866# and then they won't talk to you they hang up on you. I finally got a couple of people today and they hung up on me. They want my License # - which I would not give them - they said they are calling about a Store Family Dollar - which I have only shopped there once for an $8.64 ck they Family dollar EFT out of my account and then took the ck out of my account - I fought this with my bank -they found Family dollar in Error and returned the $8.64 to my account - I cannot talk to these people and they are going to owe me more that $8.64 when I get done.

Any advice? Thank you so much, Dawn
So anyway, I created an account. started adding individual orders (not all at once) so my checking account was charged for each item. I purchased all the making for a brand new fast computer totaling $1100.00
heres the scam.
Once i noticed the item was shipped i also noticed sometimes they don't charge my account until the item is delivered (big mistake on their part) so check bounces, I get my free stolen stuff!!! sometimes they will immediately do the ACH and attempt to pull the money immediately, so it obviously wont go through. If you are persistent enough and order a bunch of stuff you'll eventually get some free stolen stuff. Also, my bank did clear a payment of $80.00 and 1 for about $120. I disputed the charges and closed my account. The bank NEVER questioned me. Keep the items under 100-200 otherwise your bank will do an investigation and probably nail you for the charges.
1. Make multiple small transactions from amazon.com
2.DO not put money in your bank account
3.have a backup bank account just in case!
4. Dispute charges through your bank (best time to dispute is during "pending transactions in your bank, the period between the merchant requests the money from bank and the time money gets pulled. don't let it post to your account)
5. when TRW recovery services calls, just say you have no idea who that person is. or block the number.
6. any letter coming from seattle, WA is TRW recovery, so just put wrong address on the envelope and send it back.
7. if these items get reported to your credit or revoke your check writing privileges file a police report! seriously, the police WILL not do anything unless the "fraud" is more than $2,000 - $5000. they have bigger fish to fry!
KEEP all dispute charges police reports for a couple years, they might pop up again!
I hope this works for you, it can be tricky!
keep trying... order all small items at once. It took me about 3 days of ordering over and over to get my stuff!!!
Well, I am an ex bill collector of 10 years so it helps to know how checks/banks etc work...
Good luck!

From an unknown "collection agency", on an unknown "debt", this is a red flag fraud indicator.
It's a common indication of a phony "debt collection" shakedown racket. One variant of this scam is to claim either a "bad check" is owed and you will be "prosecuted for bank fraud". Another is to claim some old account was closed years ago due to insufficent funds, and a couple hundred in "fees" has supposedly ballooned to several thousand, but "you can settle for less if you pay it immediately".
TRS Recovery is a division of Telecheck that collects on bad checks presented to its merchant clients. They have an atrocious compliance record in terms of validation, and complaints also suggest problems with compliance connected to harassing calls. Some level of their "bounced checks" appear to be legitimate even if they also have problems with identifying the correct person and correcting their mistakes.
There are a couple other collection agencies with the acronym TRS, one of which has a record of complaints suggesting they engage in harassing and abusive collection of alleged "payday loans", including attempting to coerce and extort payments on bogus "debt". That would be consistent with calls out of the blue immediately claiming they are going to "serve a summons".
Legitimate collection agencies comply with the law (FDCPA and similar state laws), and would have sent you a notice by US Mail to notify you of this alleged "debt" and of your right to dispute it. The scammers don't do this, but jump right into this implied threat of some "lawsuit", even claiming they "don't have" or "don't have to provide" any information on this "debt", which is deceptive, evades FDCPA's notice and validation requirements, and violates the law.
Names can't be relied on to identify any unknown caller. People can say they are whoever they want to appear to bel. What phone numbers are they calling from, or leave as call back numbers?
