Call at work
Complaint

Country: United States
I just got a call at work from an indian sounding man named James Anderson. Because I had to go into a meeting I took his number to call him back. However, when I called the (same) voice was not aware of any James Anderson. He used my job number to pull up my file to access the complaint. He then threatened me with jail time but offered an out of court settlement. He did not want to give me an email address of phone number for his company but I was able to get the name of the company - Click Payment Services. They are apparently based in California. He says the his supervisor can help me make payment arrangements. His supervisor (same voice returned after brief hold) and identified himself as Ronald Baker and offered me a settlement. These people are crazy. He claims I visited a payday cash loan site and received a loan in February 2011. When I said that my bank statements do not reflect such a loan he claims that maybe it was some other time. THESE PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!!!!!

Many times it is run from overseas, and the callers are often reported to have thick Indian accents.
They fake "debts", using information obtained from fake "payday loan" websites, or possibly consumer credit reports.
They often attempt to threaten people through calls to employers.
This is a phone extortion racket.
There are no "debts".
They can do nothing to you but harass you.
Report to the FBI.
They don't have any information because there is no "payday loan".
They are getting information from fake on-line "payday loan" sites, when consumers enter their information on a fake "application". They may also have access to old payday loan data, or they might be pulling credit reports and obtaining SSN or old account information from that source.
It's a "con", nothing more.
No one owes them anything.
They can't do anything but threaten on the phone.
File complaints with the FBI.
