VERY Old DEBT
Complaint

I have this very old debt that was part of a divorce settlement back in 2000. I've been through this scam about hundred times at this point so this is just the latest. They say that Citibank is pursing charges against me and that I will be served soon. I had a very polite conversation with them. "Okay. That's fine. I understand. I need to inform you that this call is being recorded and it will be used in an attempt to press charges against your organization for violations. You should be informed that I am aware that Citibank has discharged this debt well over a decade ago, and that they sold a portion of it to fraudulent collection agencies such as yourself. I have an attorney who will gladly handle this case as the fines that your agency will incur for stating that I will be served, when in fact, i will not, will pay a hefty sum for his firm. Please cease contacting me via phone until you can provide adequate documentation regarding this debt.."
She hung up on me and when I called back, they said that I wasn't allowed to record them anymore. I said "fine. Then don't contact me again."

FDIC has been pushing a policy shift onto their regulated banks regarding control of and responsibility for their sales of "zombie debt", based on the "reputational risk" to the banks.
