Outrageous Deposit for a 5-years Excellent Customer.

After being a Customer for this Company, paying always, yes always on time for five years. On April 2nd/2009 my trailer burned down, nothing was recovered, 100% lost. I called two days later Progress Energy to inform it; at this time, I didn't know, where I was going to live. I couldn't transfer because I didn't have a place to live...
On April 10, I rent a trailer (my was owned but I didn't have insurance) in the same park and called Progress Energy to connect the electricity. I was asked for a $285 (became $290.99) as a deposit. I argue and argue, why this deposit? At the end, the customer service, very nonchalant, answer me: Well, do you want electricity or not? I, even, asked if there were another company in my area, Lake Wales, FL. She said, not we are the only one.
I wonder, when WE are going to be protected from these monopolies?

Fast forward to today .. now Progress Energy is charging me $200 to remove my mother's name from the account and put it in my name. I have paid the electric bill on time since her death .. never late .. never any disputes .. and THIS is how Progress Energy treats their customers. I was told I am being charged the $200 because my credit report is "bad" (I had a recent credit card dispute). It doesn't matter that THEY have received THEIR payments from me on time for the last 24 years.
Progress Energy Florida are a bunch of greedy savages .. I wish that company NOTHING but pain and misery.
Mexicans doing seasonal work, all having three or six different names, using half a dozen different stolen SSNs, get the power turned on, run up a bill, then disappear after the crop pickin' is done.
No way for PE to track them down, so EVERYONE has to pay a deposit, regardless of your credit or how good a customer you are. If we simply made huge deposits a requirement for illegals, the ACLU and the mexican-lovers would be screaming discrimination.
If it's whinning you want to do, you should look at the ROOT of the problem. Contact your representatives and demand the illegals be kept out.
