I am embarrassed to admit that, after much harassment, I went along with these guys just to get them off of the phone. I subsequently e-mailed them, advising them that I knew it was a scam and that we would not pay. Now, we received the collection letter from A.C.A. What do we do now?

FTC has been collecting a thick file on ACA Recovery and their various name-changing "clients".,

It is a violation of postal regulations to send a fraudulent invoice through the U.S. Mail. File a mail fraud complaint against ACA Recovery, collection agency to the scams, with the U.S. Postal Inspector.
Ignore their threats. In particular, ignore their "phone recordings", as they are typically doctored and edited to fake the appearance of some "agreement". Their "recordings" are only designed to intimidate you to further their extortion racket. They will NEVER follow through on their threats to "see you in court". That is the last place they would ever want to end up. This is just a "con, basically a game of "chicken".
