Washer ripping up clothes

Complaint

I, too, am having the same issue other whirlpool customers are having...my Whirlpool Duet washer is ripping up clothes! Whirlpool will not acknowledge that this is a design flaw that normal servicing cannot correct (which makes a service warranty obsolete!) The company should recall these machines and reimburse all who have invested. I believe that compensation for all damaged garments should be included. ( I have taken pictures of shredded clothes to the tune of $400) I have spent countless hours on the phone this past year with Whirlpool stating my complaints. I have been waiting for enough complaints to be issued that they would realize the flaw in the design and would do "the right thing" for their customers. After doing the research and realizing just how many people are having the same issue, and have lost favorite, expensive and sentimental items in their machines, it is hard it imagine that Whirlpool has not addressed this issue. Is the company doing so well against the competition that they can afford the bad press and lose this much of its client base??? I have called the BBB and submitted a complaint and I also called the Federal Trade Commision and issued a complaint. I asked the man on the phone what other steps I could take to make Whirlpool be accountable for these defective machines and the destruction, anxiety and inconvenience they have caused so many. He suggested ALL of us call in our complaint with them... The FTC phone# is 1-877-382-4357. It was a quick call and I felt it was a good step in the right direction. I will check with our State Bar Association to see if someone has started a class action suit...it needs to be done. I have purchased many Whirlpool and Maytag washers, dryers and refrigerators over the years. They have lost a loyal customer in me. While I wait for Whirlpool to develop a conscience and do the right thing, I wash all my clothes in mesh bags, take the machine apart periodically to clean the filter of socks it has eaten and listen daily to the ritual loud banging of the the spin cycle, not to mention the noisy normal function of the machine. Hard to believe that any company would sell this inferior product to its customers! Shame on you, Whirlpool!
