Scam call from a [***] or Indian who left a message claiming to be from the "Credit Fraud Department of the United States" and if I did not return his call there would be "serious legal action against" me. Apparently I reneged on a loan (I have no loans) and they are calling from various (non-existent) law agencies in the United States. They do have my name and my ss# which is off by three digits. How in the hell they got it I don't know.

Another sub-continent scam number to be blocked when messing with their heads gets tiresome. Caller I.D. shows the number as 1-786-484-1537.

I thought I had these buffoons flabbergasted when I started answering and speaking to them in Turkish. They put on a guy who spoke Spanish and I kept telling them "no English, no Spanish! Just Turkish!" And proceeded to swear at them in Turkish. The calls stopped for two months. Now they've got a new number and are "trying their luck" again.

Next time I will give them the fax number to the local police station and tell them to fax me all of the info about my "loan."

They might have gotten your SSN if you had applied for a payday loan at one of their fake websites, but some of these Indian scammers also have gotten access to U.S. credit report information.

I had the same thing happen to me, once last summer in 2010 and just as recently as this past week.  I was contacted by these number 863-438-1785, 772-252-9282 from Florida and another from California 530-287-4269.  But with me I was so freaked out and scared that I made a payment of three dollars to them.  I know now that that was a BIG MISTAKE, but since then I have looked into trying to find out who these individuals are, but of course turned up nothing.  These are very stressful, they've even contacted my work. How do they get our information so easy?

Also.. Please please research these things!!!!  If you get a weird phone call saying you owe money.  Look up the number the company they say they are calling from.  DO NOT give these [***] money.  If they keep getting money, they will keep doing it.  Just protect yourself, educate yourself, and by all means do not givi them your personal info

I received a call from them several times over the past months from a few different numbers. All with the same scam as mentioned above in the other posts. This time however I received a call from them on last Fri., they said they were from GE Money Bank and I was approved for $2500 and to please call another number to get the account funded. When I heard the "Eastern accent" I knew right away it was these scammers again, but I googled the number just to make sure and alas hereI am making this post. So please be aware of this possible scam. PS. GE Money Bank is no longer called this.

Having the same problem.  I told them I was not who they wanted the first time they called today from 925-331-6002. I asked them to please take me off of whatever list they were calling from.  They knew my name and had a partial ss# that was wrong.  I was polite, but they called back immediately and began to scream and threaten me, with legal action as well as calling my employer to have me fired...then they told me I should call them back at the above number and hung up on me. WOW. Same person both times, same thick accent.

I have been getting these calls for YEARS!  They call me for a couple of months, then they stop.  Then they start again a few months later.  I usually do not answer the phone when one of there numbers come up.  If they call me at work I tell them this is a place of business and not to call me here.
Today, I got an email.  Number one, whoever wrote it can not speak english, which is my first indication it is the same people and second of all since this has been going on for so long, if they could have done anything, they already would have tried!

Angry at Scammers and going to war :)
I tried to get a loan, and then did not complete the online forms because something smelled funny.  As much as a Pay Day Loan is a legal scam already, something seemed a lot more off than a three digit APR!  They started calling me about 10 times an hour.  Some politely hang up when I say I am not interested.  Others start with the screaming and cursing.  I hate to be a nasty person, and am no bigot, but.......  I finally got them to stop calling by using the nastiest most offensive slurs I could think of.  I researched online what would be most effective (Hint - Indians hate to be called any kind of slur that identifies them as Pakistani, hehe).  AND  this part is important.  Call them back repeatedly for a couple of hours.  One lady started crying, and her husband had to start answering.  She had been tough at first with her threats and insults.  By the end of one of my tirades, HE begged ME stop calling.  This sweet couple was purporting to be the IRS and "filed a lawsuit against me".... I am current with my taxes......  Use Caller ID block, and say things your mom would smack you for.  Nasty but it works, and you can get some frustration out.  Also, if you know how, and they are stupid enough to try to send you to a Trojan ridden web site (Microsoft scam) you can send a nice little piece of malware or mount your own Denial of Service Attack.  It is really fun to waste their time, anger them, and damage their computers.  You know that time you spent with them is time they will not be able to actually scam someone else.  That is the real victory when you helped avoid pain and suffering for someone who might have been vulnerable and fell for it.  After all, these low lives can be very good at the confidence game.  If you have an auto dialer - fire it up!  You can also spam their faxes all night :)  You are as unlikely to be prosecuted by Indian authorities as they are to be by yours.  Fact is, you SHOULD FIGHT when attacked.  I fight in the ring, and am taking that approach to any one who comes at me in the ring or in my wallet.  I am a heck of a nice guy, but once you start, it is on.... and I do not stop.  The last thing I want to figure out, is how to scam money from THEM.  Best of luck to you all, and remember - we invented every scam they are trying right here in the West, we first and are still the best at hateful behavior.  Jolly Green Giant - Ya know!
