Our Maytag refrigerator was about a year old when we noticed rust on the edge of the stainless steel doors. I called Maytag and they were nice enough to replace the doors even though the warranty had expired by their standards. Keep in mind, the warranty starts when you purchase the product,  not when you install it. We ordered our appliances from Lowe's well in advance of our kitchen remodel so we would have them when we needed them. The time our appliances sat in Lowe's warehouse used up 2 months of our warranty.

Now, the new stainless steel doors are rusting and they are refusing to do any thing about it.  Should stainless steel rust? Maytag doesn't seem to care whether their product performs the way they should. It's all about the warrany. Once the warranty lapses, they could care less whether their product blows up—that's the customers problem. Whatever happened to building a quality product that lasted and customers bought for generations? Obviously, that's a thing of the past.

My goal in writing this is to make consumers aware of appliance warranties. When I spoke to Lucas, a Maytag customer service supervisor, he informed me their products offered no warranty on the finish of the product.  So, according to Lucas, the finish on your brand new Maytag appliance could flake off like dandruff and it's your problem regardless whether it's a manufacturing defect or not.

Remember: Buyer beware!

I purchased a new May Tag stainless steel refridgerator five months ago. It is rusting on all the doors. I called May Tag and they told me that it was a cosmetic issue and that isn't covered under warranty. It also drops ice out of icemaker on my Pergo floors. I WARN ANYONE TO NOT BUY MAYTAG!!!!!!!!!!!!  WE ARE RETIRED AND CAN'T AFFORD TO BUY ANOTHER ONE.  I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MAYTAG AGAIN.

I will NEVER BUY A  Maytag Appliance Again.  I paid plenty for a stainless steel ref after remodeling my kitchen,.  Bought all new appliances.  Since the beginning the slides where you pull out the freezer in the bottom started rusting.  When I call the Maytag company, they said YOU can clean that off with vinegar.  I did and it immediately came back.  I am retired and cannot wash this off EVERYDAY !!  It is so nasty looking, I am embarrassed for anyone to pull out that freeze drawer.  Now the rust is all under the drawer and it actually falls out on the floor when I open the drawer.  This is just not right.  I always THOUGHT Maytag was a good product,.,,but no more.  Whatever happened to the "Satisfied customer?"  I am thoroughly disgusted,
And if course they don't want to speak to me about the problem?  Do I have any recourse?  Anybody know?  I wonder if Lowe's could make the company do anything besides telling me to clean up the mess that should not be happening?

Totally agree. My fridge freezer has rust marks appearing all over the doors. I have a care plan which costs me £15 per month test this problem is deemed to be "cosmetic". Personally I think this product has been miss sold - not fit for purpose.
2 hrs of phone calls has got me no where...

I will never purchase a Maytag again!!!! Awful awful product! My fridge has several rust spots on it> I was on hold for an hour and a half total trying to reach somebody. They don't believe they should fix it because it was cosmetic. Basically I was laughed at and had a bad luck of the draw??? Unbelievable these people do not back their products and I am disgusted!

I agree Maytag how awful our refrig is a couple months old and the same thing we have rust spots all over the refrigerator doors......I thought stainless was not supposed to rust. We have stainless steel sinks that do not rust! They must be using some cheaper material. My friend has a GE stainless steel refrig for years and has not had any rust on the doors. That is why the warranty does not cover rust!!! But you get the Maytag booklet and never think they will rust. They told me they would replace the doors but they would be $800,,,,never never buy a Maytag!!!!!!!!

The newer stainless steel is now a low grade, less Crome and nickel to save cost in production.  Don't let any company tell you anything else.  What ever you do, never buy a dishwasher with a stainless steel tub!  The end of stainless steel appliances

Purchased a Maytag fridge from HD 1 year ago(just out of warranty),and noticed rust in the grains of the stainless.Called maytag and was told out of warranty.Even in warranty period considered cosmetic and not covered. They tried to claim it was my environment,or cleaning process and chemicals causing the rust.I paid $1200.00 for this fridge, which replaced a 30 year old one.I"m trying not to explode over this, but would like to know if there is a class action suit to join. You can now clearly see how outsourcing and corporate greed have taken their toll on American consumers.High priced junk, while someone profits. So pissed off. Will NEVER buy a new Maytag again.

My Maytag is over a year old and rust is popping up all around. Also the ice dispenser shoots ice out onto the floor! So disgusted with paying top dollar from a company that clearly does not take any pride in thier products!

My Maytag also has rust spots on the doors of our expensive refrigerator less than a year old.  We were told by Maytag that there have been no problems reported by anyone else.  I see now that that was incorrect.  We were told that we shouldn't use water on the door when cleaning, but after checking the instructions on cleaning, the book said to use mild detergent and warm water.  When my husband asked to speak to a supervisor, he was not transferred to her supervisor.

We were told to order from Maytag the stainless steel cleaner at our expense.  We just received it and haven't used it yet.  I will not buy Maytag again.

I will not buy any  Maytag appliances and I will not recommend Maytag to anyone of my friends or to anybody. I am very disappointed and frustrated with WHIRLPOOL. COMPANY.
My refrigerator MODEL # MBL 225 8XES5 AND SERIAL # K24301261 was purchased in January 2013. Today is 6/27/2013 and with les than 6 months old  RUST IS IN THE REFRIGERATOR DOOR, FREEZER DOOR and IN THE HANDLE>
DO NOT BUY MAYTAG this is a not cheap stainless steel model and is showing rust in all the stainless parts of the doors.
The company told me that the guaranty does not cover this cosmetically issues! They offer to send the technician at my own expenses. REALLY! The company already now that is a big defect in there appliances and they do not want to take the responsibility.
This is very bad publicity for the company and the way that they take care of the customers how trust in their appliances, but not anymore.

Same with my maytag French doors top/ freezer bottom. I noticed it at 6 m old. Customer service said it was cosmetic. Really? Sounds like they are just putting out a poor product!! I have only used stainless steel cleaner like I was told. I didn't breach their product manual. I could see a dent but really rust??? That's a poor product!  Completely ridiculous! I'm sure we aren't the only ones with this problem.
Something has to be done! I don't want to know what it will look like in 11 yrs... That's how long we kept out kenmore.

Our Maytag French door refrigerator has rust on the right side door.  I also called Maytag and was told it was a cosmetic problem.  They offered no help or assistance.  They said the cleaning product must have harmed the finish!  My GE stainless appliances have never rusted. I will never buy a Maytag appliance again.

I, too, have rust on my expensive Maytag refrigerator! It appeared after three months.  I've only cleaned it as per the manufacturer's instructions, no products.  The store that I purchased it from gave me a product to try and clean it....NOT!  It did not work.  I'm totally disheartened. I purchased a GE stove at the same time, and the surface it PERFECT.  Do not buy a Maytag.

I bought this junk for about $2000 only 8 months ago and deeply regret the decision. Maytag just invented a new feature to Stainless Steel. STAINLESS STEEL CAN RUST!

The company quotes "Dependency is our commitment to you".
Perhaps it needs to be restated as "FRAUD is our commitment to you!"
