Multiple daily calls from 877-642-1263 - No one on the line
Complaint

My home phone has been registered with the National Do Not Call List from the very first day it was made available to the public.
By 11/10/10 I had been receiving countless calls from 877-642-1263 (TOLL FREE CALL). Every time I answered it was total silence, no one seemed to be on the line. Nevertheless, before hanging up, I always said “DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER EVER AGAIN”. Also, my answering machine comes on after the fourth ring, and I found that the recorder had started several times, but the calls must have been disconnected as soon as it had come on, and no message was ever left.
Finally, on 11/10/10, after having endured calls after calls all day and evening, I did call their number (1-877-642-1263) around 8:45 PM.
What I believed to be a man’s voice answered, but there was so much background noise and the voce was so muffled that it was barely audible and totally unintelligible. Though I do not know whether he could hear me, I told him never to call my number again, that I was registered with the Do Not Call List and would file a complaint against them if they did not stop calling immediately. Result: I received ten (10) calls the next day between the hours of 9:08 AM and 8:15PM. The Do Not Call complaint form page was not available at the time, but the calls suddenly stopped. They started again on 11/23/10. Although I put a block on their number, the calls appear on my caller ID display and my phone rings once. I have jotted down the date and tine of every call for the past 3 weeks. They seem to increase in number by the day, and to start earlier and earlier (8:30 this AM. I thought such calls could not be placed before 9AM).
I do not know what the purpose of such calls may be. They can’t be from collectors because: 1) there never was anyone on the line when I answered, and they never left any messages, and 2) I do not owe a single penny to anyone. To me they are just a form of harassment, and I will be most grateful to you for putting a stop to them.

Ignored Consumers’ Disputes Without Checking Its Information for Accuracy

“Debt collectors had better make sure their information is accurate, or they could end up paying a big penalty,” said David Vladeck, Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “There is no excuse for trying to collect debt from someone if you can’t confirm that they actually owe it.”

It is illegal under FDCPA for a debt collector to repeatedly cause a phone to ring for purposes of harassment.
