Carol Patterson?  What a joke!  I was ALMOST SCAMMED!  She also claimed to be a lawyer from NY. She knew I filed bankruptcy (HOW?) and when I tried to speak to her she wouldn't let me get a word in edge wise. This was also for magazines w/ Allied Publishing.  I called my bankruptcy lawyer and he advised me not to give her any money, But I had already given her my credit card #, had to cancel it so she wouldn't get the 450 she claimed that I owed. I didn't want to have to pay over 2500 so i decided that I would pay that amount. Thank god I was quick to cancel the card. I feel soo dumb!!  She wouldn't forward any paper work to me or my attorney b/c she said it illegal. She wouldn't even speak to my attorney. She keeps calling me at work and I filed a complaint with the attorney general office.  PLEASE DO NOT LET HER PUSH YOU AROUND and file a complaint ASAP!!!   If you didn't get it in writing it's a scam!!  She is very rude!!  And you know what?  She talks to herself.  She pretends that another person is in the office, but she only talks to herself like she is important.

So I got my very first phone call today...must be the lady you guys are all talking about. When I answered she talked so fast I didn't even hear where she said she was calling from...then she asked whom she was speaking with. The second I told her my FIRST name...she hung up. I thought it was really weird. So I *69 the call and this is the number she called me from 716-875-2332. I looked it up and this address is what is listed to that phone number:

    Seven One Six Services
    2430 Delaware Ave
    Buffalo, NY 14216-2222

Not sure if that will help anyone out...but maybe someone in NY can check it out...have the police check it out or something. I don't know.

If she calls me back I'll know what she's up to and how to handle it!

    Cheers

A "Jonathan Holler" contacted my mother on 9/9/08 and told her he was an investigator/attorney for Virginia and that we had defaulted on a loan the both her and my father had co-signed for and we were going to be sued.  She gave him my number but then immediately called me to ask what this could be (we have never signed any loan together).  While we were talking, the supposed Jonathan Holler called me and the whole call was very fishy.  He said that it was about some magazine order that I had cancelled over 6 years ago.  He said the conversation was being taped for court purposes and that he could make all of the fees and court costs go away for $101.25. When I questioned the authenticity of his call he got really defensive and mean.  I told him I needed to call my mother back to get payment information because he said he needed a credit or debit card that day.  He REFUSED to give proof of his identity or a physical address.  When I called her back I told her I thought it was a scam.  She called the local authorities who agreed.  He had bits of all 3 of our SS numbers.  We are currently trying to get this guy tracked but according to our Commonwealth's Attorney, since we couldn't get an address and because we didn't give him our credit card information, he TECHNICALLY didn't break the law and without an address or merchant ID (if he ran a card) they have no way to track him.
The number he gave us was 1-888-243-6568  ext. 204  He said the company that was "suing" me was E.P. Publishers.
We got an address on 9/10/08
    EPS
    975 Hertel Ave.

There are tons of other complaints with theses same people on 800.notes.com

716 is a total rip off.  I haven't had to deal with the harassing calls, yet, but I have be contacted by their "lawyer" Allen P McCarty ESQ. that I must fulfill my financial obligations after I wanted to cancel.  I submitted a complaint with my states Attorney General who said he has dealt with them many times before. we'll see how it goes, but they will have to take me to court to get any more money out of me.

best of luck to everyone dealing with these crooks.

I was just contacted by them today and they are going to send me my free gift and have a driver come to my work to pay for the first 2 months.

If he comes on Monday should I refuse to take it?

In Buffalo NY, "2430 Delaware Ave" (Seven One Six Services) and "975 Hertel Ave." (EPS, Miller Marketing) appear to be adjacent, if not on the same block.  Delaware Ave. intersects Hertel Ave.

No "gift" is free when you are dealing with crooks.

Sending a "driver" to pick up payment?  They intend to get a lot more out of you than what you think you are paying.

    Contact the police.

I found the best way to get these people to shut up quickly. Unfortunately it seems to be the only way: I'm having to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy due to some debts from to a business my wife and I bought from a con-man a number of years ago. When the "collections department" from Allied Publishers/Dalore Marketing called, I said
"Well, I've tried to cancel my subscriptions for more than a year and have been just throwing out all the magazines. Now I'm filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and I've decided to put your company on the list of creditors."

Her responsed was "Okay, I'll put a note in your account."

Going through the same thing.  Did these magazine scammers ever actually take anyone to court or report it to a credit bureau??  It sounds like they will stop if you file a complaint with the att. general.  What information do you need to report to the attorney general?  Any help appreciated!

I was called at work while in the middle of my day with a lady offering me magazines for just the shipping and handling of $2.50 per magazine.  I told her no then she contiued to tell me what a great deal I was getting. I said no again and that I was at work and busy.  She proceeded again to tell me that I could not beat it and it was a special for the working lady.  I said not a this time. Thanks.  She once again said why is this a problem. Its only $2.50 a magazine shipping and handling.  Finally I said okay so thats $13.00. Just trying to get off the phone.  She said yes and sent me to another person. I agreed to $13.00.  Then got a call a couple days later saying which a lady proceeded to tell me that they were going to give me a couple extra magazines but I need to pay $26.00 and once again I said I just agreed because I am at work and really don't need them.  Not once was I told it was 3 years of magazines or shipping and handling.  Until the bill came and I called furious.  This was over 1-2 months later.  I told them I did not want to pay it.  And was not aware of the huge amount whether it was monthly or not.  I was told I had to pay it or It would cause me bad credit. And that it is only $13.00 a month which is nothing.  I paid reluctantly up until 2 months ago.  I have received a call at work ever 3-4 days from a different person who tells me that I need to pay it up to date and see if I can get somone else to take over the magazines and that is the only way to get out of it.  And I will be sent to collections by next week.  I have great credit.  I don't want bad credit.  Can they do this to me? How do I get them to stop harassing me and stop sending me bills?  They never got a SS# as far as I know so how could they send it to my credit.  Please any advice?  I dont even want the magazines. HELP!!!

    Don't fall for their lies!
It is ILLEGAL for someone to contact you at work about debt.  You need to look into the Fair Debt Collections Act.  Report this to your states attorney general and New York's Attorney General.  By law, if you tell them not to contact you about a debt, they can't.  Next time they call let them you know the law and they are breaking it in so many ways!  It will not affect your credit.  They don't allow scam artists to report to a credit agency. Hope this helps!

I would guess the same company. They got my name, address and phone number, but I told them at the end of the call that I was not interested. I did not listen to name of company or person on the first call I received last week (4/23/09), but I did get a 2nd call today.  It was 716 services and the salesperson was Rhonda. Their little talk about how they cannot send out periodicals for free has to be a farce, because I get several in the mail that I would like NOT to receive, and it is just junk mail.  Mayo clinic junk, and Soybean magazine, you name it and I don't have to pay them .60 cents per week per magazine.  This time I asked them for their name and address of their company, as well as a phone number, but they would not give it to me.  Instead she put her supervisor on the phone, who then proceeded to hang up on me.

    Cassie from Buffalo
Ok so these people just contacted me the other day, but I'm from Buffalo so he told me he was an attorney from Connecticut!! I've been doing collections for years and could tell he was just another collector. His name was Ronald Paul & he tried to offer me a settlement on what I supposedly owe 716 Services, he tried to get me to post date a credit card or check, I told him no & he went on to say that I will be getting a subpoena to go to court in Connecticut and will be going to jail for 1 1/3 yrs for falsifying legal documents. Oh and the best part is he called me at work & told me they will deliver the subpoena to my work. I hung up on him. I know all the collection laws & I know that this is very illegal to do.
