Most "free trial offers" are set up to get your account information, and then convert to start charging that account.

Often these scams sell some worthless "service", but even if there is some value, as with a magazine, this type of scam typically depends on interfering with consumers who might want to cancel, either by counting on you not having any way to contact them to cancel, or even by using "confusion" or other deceptive tactics to evade attempts to cancel.

Dispute unauthorized charges through your bank as FRAUDULENT, and file fraud complaints with FTC, your state Attorney General, and BBB.

Nothing is "free".  Anyone who wants to sell you something "free" is out to con you.

This may be who you are dealing with:
    https://complaintwire.org/Complaint.aspx/Fq5FKAJy0ADV4wjM_XtDqQ

Dispute fraudulent charges through your bank, and close your account due to fraud to prevent additional fraudulent charges.  Your bank can reverse fraudulent charges disputed within 60 days of the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charge, under FRB Reg. E or FCBA, so you may be able to get back 2 to 3 months of charges.

File fraud complaints with FTC, and your state Attorney General.

Since the original deceptive solicitation was through a brick and mortar store, file a complaint with your local DA's Consumer Protection Unit.

I got a random charge from the Stein Mart magazine offer - that I canceled a year ago! I just called the 800-number listed above and it seems to have worked...it's tedious, but it worked! I will post another message if the money doesn't get credited back.

It hasn't worked until you get your money back.

You know you canceled a year ago, so their recent charge is fraudulent.

File a fraud dispute with your bank, and this time have them close the account or block the card number, or they might try to slip through another charge next year.  Your bank can reverse unauthorized or fraudulent charges if your dispute within 60 days of the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charge.

Do not let them run out this 60 day dispute window with empty promises, since bank disputes are the only sure way to recover your money when you are dealing with this type of scam.

    I found the website...magcustomerservice.com
Really easy to cancel if they have not charged you yet. Not sure if they will automatically refund what I was charged for People magazine, but hopefully.

Last month I bought few items  from Stein mart, Morrisville NC. They offered me 3 magazine's subscription, free for 3 months. The sales associate never explained me or took my consent for authorizing my credit card that was used to purchase these items. Later in  the day I saw a statement in the receipt about my consent. Fortunately I found it early and hence saved my time for a credit car dispute. Call 1800-399-5730 to cancel your subscription, if this ever happened to you. If you need to a real person at their customer care, then don't answer any of the automated questions for first 10 minutes. This is a scam by Stein Mart.

    they got my wife today,
    no charges , they said.
but failed to say it's a long time contract with charges.
    they lie through omission.!

in the store the lady had to call the 800 number and extricate my wife's
orders (3 mags) and they had her ATM CARD number,"stored"

consider that, your personal ATM checking and savings number being
shared with publishers..... what scam and  very bad security issue.

we will vote with our feet and shop at other no scam stores.
    Bye SteinMart.  no second chances.

Again all you had to do was call when you got the large green post card in the mail. 3 months free you call they cancel.  You can even bring the card to the store and they will cancel  If by chance you get charged. GO TO the store and they will call for you and have it reversed. NOT A BIG DEAL.  Free Mags. for you.  Just use the system. pay attention. And cancel when you get the GREEN card in the mail.  its not a scam. just another way to USE there System get the free Mags for 3  months.  Again GO to the store. they will do all that for you . there trained to do that.

You need to go to your bank or wherever it is they are taking your money.  Stop the credit/debit card - my bank contacted the Fraud Department and issued me a new card.  They are going to refund me all the $$ that has been taken from me.

Same thing just happened to me and I plan to do something about because it's not right.  I have already contacted the BBB with my complaint.  I will also contact the Attorney General as well as the FTC. I do not want this to happen to one more person.
