Don't buy PNY products

On June 29th 2006, i purchased a PNY 1GB SD card 2 pack from CompUSA in Orem, Utah. There was a $10 mail in rebate offer on either the 1GB SD 2 pack, or a 512MB Compact Flash card, for a possible total of $20 in rebate, if you bought one of each. I only bought the 1GB SD 2 pack. I mailed in the rebate including the UPC within a week or two, well within the time limit.
On July 28th, i received a postcard stating that my rebate was invalid because i did not submit a UPC for the 512MB Compact Flash card. The website listed the same reason. Neither the website, nor the postcard mentioned a missing UPC for the 1MB SD 2 pack.
I called the phone number and was told that i would have to fax in a copy of the UPC before they could do anything. They would not accept it by e-mail. Who still has a fax machine in this day and age? Who can't accept e-mail these days?
I double checked the website, and NOW it lists the reason for being invalid as both UPCs being missing. Somehow they lost the UPC for what i bought when i called them to ask about it? This is unacceptable.
I went to CompUSA to return the product, and of course the UPC is missing and it is past the return date. However they were willing to give me the $10 for the rebate then and there, in cash.
I would have liked to get all of my money back and not let PNY have any of it. But at least i got my rebate, but from the Retailer, not from PNY.
Don't buy PNY product, especially if there is a mail in rebate.

Here's a really good piece of free advice to you - photocopy everything twice before you mail it! I tend to buy more when stuff has rebates, but I do hear lots of excuses like you did. I keep a file of all outstanding rebates and follow-up on them on a biweekly or monthly basis. They always try to find an excuse to disqualify the rebate submitted, hence don't give them any reason to do so.
One rebate of $100 USD for an HP laptop from www.onsale.com or www.pcconnection.com forced me to start emailing the publicly listed board of directors members for the company as they kept making different excuses for well over 9 months about a rebate submission.
2 hours, that's right, 2 hours, after emailing the board of directors members I got a personal telephone call and was ensured that my rebate would be provided to my credit card that same day. I did get my rebate, but the hard way.
Good luck next time.
