Pay Day Loan
Complaint
Pamela O'Pharrow
Country: United States
I received a phone call from a Michael Stevens asking me to call this telephone # 248-284-1633 in regard to a pending legal action asgainst me he never said what it was about. I have never received any letter from any company demanding payment, I have no idea what this person was talking about he gave no details of what his call was about just that a pending matter was against me. When I returned this phone call the person picked up the telephone and just said Michael, I said who is this he said Micahel, I said Michael from where he said Michigan, this person is impersonating a fraud, if this was a company why didn't his phone ring on the company telephone line if he is representing a company he is suppose to be colecting for, this person needs to be stopped.

The above pattern matches a common fraudulent "payday loan debt collection" scam that has become increasingly popular with con artists.
Characteristics include American sounding names, middle eastern, Indian, or Pakistani sounding accents, alleged but non-existent payday loan, threats of arrest or a lawsuit, calls to employers or relatives to threaten embaressment, amounts allegedly in the $500 to $5000 range, etc. In some cases, they may have access to identity information such as SSN, or possibly credit report information.
It is a scam.
There is no "debt".
They cannot carry out any threats.
In many cases, they are calling from overseas, using cheap VoIP, and changing their numbers every few months.
