That is what they do, as reported in other complaints.

Failing to pay a loan is not automatically a criminal offense.

Making illegal threats of arrest in the collection of a debt by a third party debt collector is a violation of FDCPA and state laws.  File a complaint with your state Attorney General, FTC, and their state AG, regarding their illegal threats of arrest.

If the loan is legitimately owed by you, you would be best served to work with the original lender.  There are complaints indicating that they have attempted to collect on debts already paid, or under terms different from the loan terms.

If they continue to harass you, and especially if you do not owe it, either because they are contacting the wrong person, or because you have already paid it, then you should take aggressive steps toward terminating their harassment.  File AF and FTC complaints, and seek out a consumer protection attorney in your state, since under FDCPA you can sue in your state court even though they may be in another state.  If they are violating FDCPA, such as by making illegal threats, and you win, you can be awarded statutory and actual damages, as well as your attorney's fees.  There are attorneys who take this sort of case on contingency.

You might try www.naca.net to find an attorney in your state.

Since they have contacted you, they had 5 days from their first contact to send you a letter notifying you of your right to dispute and request proof of the alleged debt.  If they failed to send you that letter, they have also violated FDCPA, on top of their violations due to illegal threats.

They have called using different company names saying that they are just to locate me for the company that the loan was through. I have stated that if they want to send me documentation that I ACTUALLY took the loan then I would be glad to work with them but they will not send any documentation because they know that I DIDN'T take the loan. When I try and check out the company that they are using nothing comes up. This is the first time I have actually gotten anything on the name but this is the first time that they have used this name. Now they are calling family members that they somehow found and leaving threats with them. They tell me that the company that the loan was though (of which I can't find nothing on) has notified me at such and such address and e-mail several times but nothing has EVER been sent to me by mail. They do try to play themselves off as the Federal Bureau of whatever making it sound like they are calling from the FBI. They have made repeated threats to me and my staff for going on 2 years now. Just when I think they are gone the pop back up again with a new phone number and a new company name. I'm not sure who I need to go to to try and get rid of them. Yes I was stupid and put information out on the internet that I should have never done when I was "mentally" not in a very good place and now this is the price that I am having to pay...Please help me make them stop...
