Direct tv didn't honor their contratual agreement with me.  When I contacted them about possibly using them instead of Comcast I told them they would need to be cheaper than $54.00 a month. They said they would charge me $29.00 for the first 3 months and 39.99 after that.  I said I had 5 televisions and wondered if there would be any additional charges to have them hooked up to recievers.  I was told "No," that the special included 4 receivers but they would throw in the 5th at no charge.  My bill is $95.92.  When I called they said,"You had to mail in a rebate request, which takes 6 weeks to process.  After that is done your bill will be $56.00 per month plus 4.99 for each tv receiver!"  I told them this was not the agreement we had made.  They said they didn't care and would charge me if I discontinued my service.  I'm ready to sue them for false advertising!  They are a lying, SOB company!  I hope no one ever uses them.

What you describe is "bait and switch" economic fraud.  Direct TV has had other similar complaints.  File complaints with your state Attorney General and FTC, and contact your local District Attorney's Consumer Fraud unit.

I just ordered Direct TV for the first time.  I asked the rep alot of questions, especially my total monthly charges for year 1 and year 2 including everything.

I also insisted on an email confirmation detailing my order and my monthly fees.  As of today, I still do not have an email.  I called and emailed Direct TV today and advised them that if I do not have my contract info in writing prior to my installation date I will cancel my order.

My order consists of free installation of 5 boxes, one of which is a HDTV DVR, a free $50 visa card, free movie channels for 3 months. All for $77 per month for months 1-3, months 3-12 $64.94, months 13-24 $71.28 260 channels and 130 hd channels.
