cancelled my subscription 2 weeks ago and have been called once or twice a day since offering me all kind of deals to come back to direct tv. After about the fifth call I told them not to call me anymore and for them to put me on a do not call list but it has not done any good.

Follow up in writing, confirming when you originally cancelled, that they have been repeatedly soliciting you by phone despite your request to be put on their Do Not Call list, and that you are requesting that they cease calling you.  Send it certified return receipt requested.

    There are two problems here:
    1)  They are harassing you, in violation of the Do Not Call law.  You have a right to expect them to stop.
    2)  Your past account information is in the hands of scummy telemarketers, hired and incentivized to retrieve lost customers, and they may just "restart" your account without your approval to get their bonus.  If you remember, AOL was caught and sued by several state AGs for exactly that.

This creates an incentive for petty fraud, with resulting potential damage to your good credit, so document in writing both your original cancellation, and your demand that they stop calling, so you have it in writing with verification of their receipt, should either the calls not stop or some collection agency "accidentally" start demanding payment for an account you never authorized.

Cancelled my direct tv 2-3 months ago.

They've been calling me either every day, or every other day, the entire time. They wont remove me from their telemarketer's calling list, Ive asked three times.

My 2 local cable companies never harassed me, in fact, I never heard a word from them, ever, but direct TV tries to pound people into submission with harassing phone calls until you give up.

Dont ever get direct tv, if you do and cancel, they will never stop calling you, ever.

Like all the rest of you, DIRECTV is violating my freedom from harassment. What do we have a judicial system for. We have big corporations terrorizing citizens and the government I elected can't or won't protect. Make sure each and everyone who can, VOTES. May-be we will elect someone who can stand up to companies like DIRECTV, and afford the citizens peace.

I'm being harrassed by the man who I talked to about a potential basic television only Direct TV account.  Without agreeing to an account, he went ahead and put us in the system for set up at our house.  He put us in their computerized system so we are receiving calls that we have to cancel service.  But to cancel we have to talk to a person, and the phone disconnects before we are given over to a person.  We finally call separately and did get through to someone but the next day a contract installer called at  730 am to tell us he was coming shortly to do our install.  Cancelled this man and again called Direct TV to report.  Not sure what is to happen next.  The issue that started all this was the first man on the phone was tod we ONLY wanted the very basic TV service, which we think we just got with Comcast Xfinity at another location for $29 per month.  He tried to set several times bundled packages $129 per mo without taxes etc.  Then kept on with various packages that had extra services and channels.  Finally he said he was going to do a basic at $41 per month that had a number of local and regular channels, which was fine.  Then he said for our credit rating he was giving us 3 months free of three special channels.  Nothing was said about any other costs.  Finally he got to the point we were ready to go (all while I was telling him I did not have much time as I had a sick child at home), then he talked to someone else about transferring me over for establishing service at the house, as he was saying goodbye he said the three channels would start billing extra after three months.  I said NO WAY, I had enough and we were NOT going to continue pursuing service with Direct TV.  I said do not process us, we are going to set up with another service.   Then I said goodbye and hug up.  What happened then by this man is vindictive harassment and just plain crooked trying his best to get us locked into Direct TV when we said clearly NO.

I cancelled my account back in August. The person I spoke with tried VERY HARD to get me to keep my account, but I didn’t want it. So, it was cancelled and then I received random charges that I shouldn’t have received. I called back and the person I spoke with nearly harassed me to get me to reactivate my account. I said no, I just want the fees waived and he said he had it taken care of. Then, I got a notification that I my account was reactivated. I called in to ask why because I never reactivated it. The person I spoke with tried, again, to get me to reactivate my account, but finally she told me that the reactivation, THAT I DID NOT REQUEST, was taken care of. Then, there were additional fee wrongfully charged to my account. I called in a third time and finally spoke with someone who was very nice and was the first person who didn’t harass me to try to restart my account. She told me that she was sorry for the issue and that she couldn’t see where I ever reactivated my account, but saw that for some reason it was reactivated. She, then, said she waived the fees. A week later, I received a notification that there was a $95 cancellation fee. At that point, I was so frustrated that I ignored the issue. I completely forgot about it until a week ago when I started getting 5 calls a day from a Kentucky number. I called the number back and they said they were a collection agency for DIRECTV. I told them I wasn’t paying something that I didn’t owe.

Today, I called DIRECTV to get the issue resolved. The guy I spoke with said he had to have me called the DIRECTV number for disputes. He gave me an 844 number, which turned out to be a number for the collection agency. So, I spoke with the guy with the collection agency and he told me that he would have to do a 3 way call in with DIRECTV. We spoke with a woman who went all through my account with me. She told me that the charge was for the cancellation of the reactivation, but that she could not see anywhere on my account that there was any communication from me to reactivate it. She said she didn’t know what to do so she was going to contact billing. Instead, she transferred me somewhere else. The woman who answered verified my information and then transferred me to an account specialist. The account specialist had no idea what was going on with my account. He told me that I was in “bad standing” with them, but that he was willing to help me out with it. Then, he started trying to tell me the deals that DIRECTV had right now and that he would really like to get me a good deal. I told him that I DO NOT want to reactivate and I proceeded to tell him everything I had been through. He responded by saying that would need to put me on hold. About 2 minutes later, I was hung up on.

So, here I am with nothing resolved and multiple hours of my time wasted. I don’t even know how it is legal to treat someone so horribly and with such disrespect. I am not even sure how a company finds so many employees who are completely heartless and hateful. I will be calling back after work to try once again to get this sorted out, but I am sure I will, once again, get nowhere. In fact, they will probably just charge me an additional fee just for calling in.

To anyone who even considers getting service with this company, I hope that you read this first and I hope that you run the other direction. There are so many other great options for TV that are far cheaper and that will never treat you like this. No one should have to go through constant harassment for canceling a basic TV package. DIRECTV should be ashamed of themselves.

I canceled Direct Tv after 7 years and they are calling me 3 times a day to offer me deals to come back.
Even if i was thinking of coming back won't now cause of the harassment I don't appreciate it and I told them if they wanted to lower my bill they should have done it in the last 7 years not now it is too late. I have now blocked their number from calling me.

I get 3-9 calls a day claiming to lower my "Direct/TV" bill. I get an equal amount of calls from "Spectrum", which is not in my area. Every caller has an Indian accent. They are scams. The Do Not Call list only stops legitimate businesses. Many companies ignore it.
