Operator was male, and rude.  I asked to have my phone number removed from their automated system to stop solicitation phone calls.  He said I pushed 9 for information on how to lower my visa or mastercard interest rates.  I told him forcefully I DO NOT want to be called and solicited in this way and I am on the national do not call list.

He called me a jerk and said he was not going to give me the offer.  No company name was given.

How to I prevent these automated phone calls coming to my home business phone?  This has happened before and I have been hung up on and talked to rudely.  They need to Stop!  Isn't this illegal?  Is there a list I can sign up on to prevent this?

Contact the office of Senator Charles Schumer.
    http://schumer.senate.gov/

He recently got fed up with "auto warranty" scam calls (which also involve telephone fraud in connection with Do Not Call violations) and is calling for FTC action.

Since your phone is used for a business, unfortunately the Do Not Call law does not apply.  However, that would make little difference since these scammers ignore the law anyway.

There are boxes you can get that you insert between your incoming phone line and your telephones.  They play a message to callers, and require that a code be punched in to actually ring through to your phone.  Even if the message give the code, so your legitimate human callers can contact you, auto dialers cannot understand the message so they get diverted to voice mail, or hung up on.
