Contact the publisher directly and tell them you did not renew, so they should cancel. Do so in writing. They will generally do so on request.
The various Hearst publications use a company called Sunrise Credit to "retain" customers. They straddle the fence between being a "subscription sales" and a "collection agency". Their renewal solicitations are often written deceptively, implying you "owe" the renewal amount, that the account is "in collection", etc, when you can still just cancel owing nothing. Rather shady business practice.
If you have further problems after sending written notice of cancellation, file a BBB complaint or contact your Attorney General, including a copy of your cancellation/non-renewal letter. They will generally back off when challenged.
