I have rented a car in April from Alamo in Miami Airport for 10 days. They quoted for $390. I was fine with it. I returned my car 2 days earlier due to a change in my business trip. To my surprise I received a bill from Alamo for $562! I called them and they explained that because I returned the car earlier they apply a different daily rate. What a difference! And a nice way to make money: they had their car earlier, with less millage and made some additional money.

I rent cars a lot and from Alamo. When I say a lot I have hundreds of weekly rentals with Alamo and I use the same location every time. Since I rent so much I do not take the optional insurance, prepay for gas or upgrade the car for an additional fee.

Alamo employees make commission when the add on any of the above services.
If a customer does not add any extras they are called a D. Which means no commission is being made on that customer with that rental.

Alamo employees know me by now and when they see me they walk away from the
counter so not to help me. I get treated rude at times and they add fees to
my rentals to punish me for not adding any extra options.

The last straw was when a rental agent made me wait for 3 hours, canceled my reservation and call the manager and said I was harassing him. I wrote a letter complaining about my treatment, I was told he was wrong and they reprimanded him , but that incident cost me time and because he canceled my reservation I had to pay extra and bring the car back the next day to correct what he did.

I recently started renting for Enterprise Rent A Car and the service is much better but on August 1st 2007 Alamo purchased Enterprise. I hope they do not take on Alamo's way of doing business.

Alamo trains employees to practice unethical pricing and billing.  Beware of bait and switch pricing, and being overcharged for service not received. Check your bill carefully and add it up yourself. Yes its that bad. Management is uncaring and unethical as well. The government should close down businesses that act in this manner.

Totally agree, as a Brit arriving in Florida for a vacation, my experience at the Alamo car rental depot near the airport will never be forgotten. We always look to the US as the inventors of customer satisfaction, well Alamo must have dropped out of the classroom. Long lines with 30 people waiting, out of 20 desks only 5 manned, one Alamo employee barking at the people to pack together closer in the line (pretty obvious to anyone with a brain cell that this isn`t going to get you served quicker, just makes the line look shorter for newcomers). The desk employee ( I found out later) added an unrequested $59 for prepaid gas to my bill which I signed for thinkng it was just the Tems and conditions. Cars were grubby inside and out with french fries, drink spills and general dirt inside. "Remember the Alamo!" I certainly will, here`s on Brit they will never again get as a customer.

My wife and kids traveled with more family to a wedding in miami,FL.
The only bad experience has been renting with ALAMO. They rented 3 vehicles
with the reservations made before hand. To make a long story short, they were treated with the worst attitude at the airport and even told that they didn't need their money. When the cars were returned they were all overcharged. One of them even got charged for a GPS, which was just left in the vehicle.
My advice to everybody I speak is to not use this company.

Defrauded after renting a car from Alamo
BUYER BEWARE! I made a reservation thru Alamo for a compact car in Barcelona Spain. The total charge for my rental should have been $199 (including a GPS unit I rented at the airport for 21 euro). Upon my return from Spain, I discovered three separate charges from Alamo on my credit card statement totaling $65 in overcharges.

After several conversations with a rude and inefficient customer service department, I decided to have the overcharges reversed by my credit card company. Based on this experience and the other reviews I have now read, I will NEVER again go back to Alamo or National (they seem to be affiliated). Hope this review will help someone out there avoid the heartaches that this business can cause by their poor practices. Absolutely the worst rental car company I have utilized.

I really wish I would have researched Alamo before booking. I called the customer service number twice after finding out my plans changed and I didn't need the car for the entire trip. I was originally told (by customer service) that I would only be charged for the few days of use. I called the airport location to confirm with them and they told me it would be double the estimated price I was quoted to begin with. So $600 for THREE DAYS use of the car! Are you kidding me?!?! I kept the car until the last day even though I had to change my plans again. I WILL NEVER EVER BOOK WITH ALAMO AGAIN. I WILL NEVER REFER ANYONE TO USE ALAMO.

    Defrauded Customer
My two-day rental of a premium SUV from Los Angeles broke down on the second day.  Alamo calls out a tow truck to take the vehicle.  I'm initially told my the customer service rep that I would be credited one day.  A few days later, I check my credit card statement to see I was 75% more than my original contract because I didn't return the car on time, the extra LDW insurance, and $6 per gallon for gas because I didn't fill it up.  After complaining, Alamo did me the "favor" of crediting me the extra day and additional LDW.  Bottom line, Alamo demanded full payment of the original contract even though the vehicle broke down and left me stranded.  NEVER AGAIN, ALAMO.  I hope my bad experience is read by others so they can avoid renting with ALAMO.
