My Sony DSC-W5 Cybershot Digital Camera failed to power up after 13 months since its purchase. I spent nearly $400 on it, and it was a disappointment. I searched the internet and found many angry customers having the same issue with the camera. Even sellers on Ebay were trying to get rid of these faulty   cameras warning byers of possible malfunction.

I didn't buy extended warranty on this item - I never do - so I contacted Sony asking how much they would charge to repair it. They said $180! Almost half as much as I spent on camera. I rejected their offer.

Further into my research of this problem I found that Japan had recalled these cameras earlier. But USA didn't recall the same model with the same defects.

My camera (purchaed in June 2005) also went dead just today.  It was working fine since Sunday and today I can't even power it up.  What a disappointment!!! Hopefully, there's someone who can help us troubleshoot this.  How can it work one day and not the next day???  At first, I thought it was the battery but turned out that wasn't the case.  Btw, is your camera (by touch) on the warm side.  I just noticed that today and it wasn't near any heat or sunlight.  Argh!!!!

I purchased a SONY CyberShot for my trip abroad for nearly $600.  It takes great pictures during the day but only outdoors.  Forget taking pictures indoors or at night time (unless the object is a few feet away).  The sleek design was what attracted me as well as Sony's reputation for quality.  However, I soon found out that the camera was useless and I ended up having my friends (who used cameras that were much much cheaper!!) send me pictures from my trip abroad since most of mine were horrible quality.  I am now experiencing trouble turning on the camera even when it is fully charged.  I have read many complaints regarding Sony's cust. serv. and I will not be buying any more SONY products.

I bought a Sony DSC-W350 Cyber-shot camera in March for about $160.  It now won't turn on.  I used esupport from Sony to try to determine if was the camera or the battery that was the problem.  After several attempts to describe the symptoms of the camera and battery the support persons replies were terse and accusatory.  She told me it was the battery that had failed.  I bought a second battery, charged it, and the camera still fails to turn on.  Now I have about $200 in a camera that I used about ten times.  I figure its about a dollar per photo. I will will never buy another Sony product
