phone call abuse and harassment

Complaint

Credit Card Services calls my home phone several times a week, always from different states and phone numbers.  There is a recorded message telling me that I need to talk to someone about my credit card.  When I press one to speak with a rep. they always hang up on me when I ask for my name to be taken off their call list.  I file a complaint each time with the National Do Not Call List but I really don't think anyone even reads those complaints.  Is there some government organization that can stop these people?

Callers using recorded messages are required by FCC rules to provide a means to get off their call lists.  They are also required to not call anyone who has not already agreed to receive their calls.  Hanging up to prevent you from requesting that they cease calling violates both Do Not Call rules, and FCC autodialer rules, as well as state law in many states.

This type of telemarketing call has often been reported to be linked to a fraudulent telemarketer based in Florida.

What numbers, either in the recorded message or on caller id, are showing up in connection with these calls?

File FTC Do Not Call complaints, and also file a complaint with FCC for the harassing calls.

To be a telemarketer you do not have to pass a drug test, nor do they check for any criminal record. I know of people who have felony charges against them who are or have been telemarketers. Really makes you want to give them all your personal information. I think not. I tell them this and they are not real happy. I also tell them any idiot can be a telemarketer

Credit Card Services calls me 2 times a day and will not take me off their list.

I have started to shine them on. I go along with them and give them false information and stop to make believe I am asking my wife questions, making them wait. I keep them on the line as long as I can then after 10 or 15 minutes informe them that I am getting even with them by wasting their time. The still call but I get satisfaction by making them waste time on me. If everyone did this they might stop but I don't have much faith that they will.

I am sick of these harrassing calls.  I do not own credit cards.  I do not appreciate being called at all hours of the day for something I do not even own.  I am on the do not call registry and do not appreciate getting calls when I have specifically requested not to be called.  What good does this registry do if companies and scam artists do not abide by the laws.  I think it's time we band together and start sueing these people for their negligence.

If you tell them to stop calling 3 times, they are in violation of FCC regulations. Record the date , time and phone number, if possible, and report them to the FCC. You may even get a reward,

I agree. I am an attorney and I just read the rules re sueing these  type of abusers. I just started cutting back on my practice so I am home a lot more than usual and these calls are driving me crazy. I use my home number for my business now and because I practice all over the US I have to take calls from area codes I do not recognize as I have attorneys calling me from all over. I am willing to go after these folks if we can ID them. Anyone who wants to join me let me know and I will tell you how to contact me off the blog. Trooper.. If we can id these folks there is a $500 to $1500 fine per call and the individual called has standing to bring the lawsuit.

      Trooper,
I was speaking to an attorney yesterday that said the same thing.  he was not aware of the actual statute or reg being broken.  A friend of his said if you tell them you have a lawyer and they continue to call then there is a fine leveed against the customer.  I would have no problem sticking it to these companies.  I was curious to knew more about this.  My e-mail is gordonlane2@gmail.com if you wouldn't mind or send me your number if the phone is more convenient.  Thank you.

This Credit Card Services calls 2 or 3 times a day. I have ask them to take me off their list, I am on the do not call National list, have been for 15 years. When my husband was home ill and I was taking care of him, I had to answer the phone for Doctor and Hospice calls, he passed away in 2011 and I still get the calls. I called my bank they told me it is not from them do not give them information, its a scam. They are rude, they hang up on me when I ask them not to call.

We're with you.  We have been receiving these calls, and we are writing down the numbers.  Most of these are cell phones accdg to reverse lookup.  From how widespread the numbers called from are and the uniformity of the opening message, I suspect that many of the callers may have responded to an "work from home" ad, not knowing they were going to be part of a scam.  They are probably told how to mask their telephone IDs.  When I call the number back, it usually gets a message about the "box is full."  But many of the cell phone numbers are "unavailable" or "out of service." I suspect that some of these people use prepaid cell phone to remain unidentified.
Often we get "000" of (0) calls, too, where the ID is blocked.

Thats exactly what i did except i bought an airhorn from walmart.I pressed 1 to lower my interest then when the man was talking i blew my airhorn into the speaking part for 30 seconds he hung up.He then called back cussing that wasn't nessasary. I then said take me off your list or everytime you all called me i was going to do tit again. He then said he was removing my name from the computer. That was 3 months ago and not one call since. The more i reported them to ftc the more calls i got upto 3 to 5 times a day!I enjoyed sticking it to them for a change!
