On 3/15/13, I received a random text message from phone number 651-347-6596 stating:  "Google Message #_ _ _ _ _:   Your Gmail has been compromised by hackers.  We need to call to verify your identity.  Reply with 'READY' when you are ready to take the call."  My suspicions were correct, and of course, I did not call back.  Anyhow, being curious, I Googled the phone number and I'm glad I found your website warning others about this scammer number.  I thought I'd also share my encounter with this scammer so others may be well informed and beware.

    Based on a quick search, it's a scam. If you go thru all the steps, check your phone bill. You may end up paying for premium text service. Depending on your service provider you can report and/or block.

    I just got the same message, immediate deletion.

    "Gmail #44254: Your profile has been compromised. Reply to this message with READY when you are ready to reactivate your profile."

    Scam number was (251) 219-0446.

    Got the same message as above. Sounded a but funny but followed the steps & I texted back, then they texted back with a verification code, & then they called me & asked me to enter the code. I will have to watch my cell bill for unauthorized charges.

    This was my exact message:

    User #60523: Your Gmail account has been compromised . Reply  SENDNOW when you are ready to verify your account.

    The number initially came from 907-239-1681

    I texted back & received this message:

    Google#41654:  Please enter the verification code -23- when  We call you.

    I did & they said thank you & that my account was active again. I had access all along. Must be a scam. I will watch my bill.

    The number the call came from was 202-455-8888.

    mine came from 218-303-5737 which is district of columbia

    I go the same message today, from 540-268-0094. Changed my password to be on the safe side :) and notified my carrier as well.

    I just got a text from 651-317-9208 that says "Your Gmail account has been hacked. Text back SENDNOW when you are ready to reactivate your account." I don't recall giving my phone number when I set up my Gmail account, so I'm not going to answer it. I hope this is the right move.

    i got that same message about my gmail profile being compromised and to text back SENDNOW when i was ready to reactivate it. I already texted that back to them because i wanted to correct the problem...number was 702-751-6038.  I just changed my gmail password after doing that. what should i do now to stop them scamming my phone or gmail please??? thank you for your help!!

    Reply SENDNOW to re-activate your profile. I replied with @#$% %$# .

    "User #69836: Your Gmail account has been compromised. Reply SENDNOW when you are able to reactivate your account."

    Number was (650)-260-3982 and google says it's from Sunnyvale, California.

    Text was received from 414-367-8046.

    DO NOT RESPOND TO ANYTHING LIKE THIS...  First check with Google, if you want to be sure.  They can look up any contact between them and yourself.  I called the number they texted me with from a land line, and it told me "We could not complete your call.  Please try again."  The number SUPPOSEDLY traces to Milwaukee, WI.  Remember that people do have the ability to mask their number with any number they want today, with the right equipment.  This way, when they call or text, it shows up as a number from anywhere other than where they are located...

      Do not respond to text messages from unknown sources, just as you would not click on any link in an email from any unknown source.

    My Gmail profile compromised text came in from 516-441-2864.  It followed the format of the postings above.

    Rec'd message from 385-215-9129: User#67430: Your Gmail profile has been compromised. Reply to this message with VERIFY when you are ready to reactivate your profile. Replied back "F*** Off, Scammer." Have yet to hear back.

    Just got the same message from 616-439-0474. Only difference is that I was told to text the word VERIFY.  I did not, thinking it was a scam.

    I did look up the phone number and it came back as a number that is not in service--they must be masking the real number.

    The funny thing is -- I don't have a gmail account.
