Debt Collection

This company has repeatedly called threatening to take me to court over a balance owed on a vehicle which was repossessed in  2010. They claimed they are a third party representing Santander. I was unaware any such balance existed as the car was sold. I almost paid a large sum of money today thinking it would settle the debt. But when going through the process, I  was pressured to agree to authorizing payment via text and sign a very unprofessional looking document to send back via email. They refused to validate this debt in writing prior to charging my card. My instinct told me stop this process . So another person got on the phone telling me My payment would be refunded in 10 to 15 days. When I questioned it, she said it's their policy but it might be sooner. All very unclear. I mentioned that I didn't feel comfortable and the document I was to sign did not look professional. They manually typed in the name Santander. This did not look legit. I called my bank and stopped the 1,000 payment and had to get the process going to have a new card issued at my bank.
