Check into the cancellation terms of her contract.  They may allow cancelling if she moves more than a certain distance from any Ballys affiliated health club.  Is she planning on leaving, perhaps to go home?

Note, however, the details of how to cancel, including how to notify them of cancellation (probably by certified notification to a designated address, with some "proof" cancellation meets terms of the contract), and be prepared to file a complaint with your District Attorney for consumer fraud should they then claim she cannot cancel due to any reason not spelled out in the contract.

I am in the same problem right now! I cannot afford this membership anymore, I'm not sure what to do but I think I will contact my lawyer to find a way out of it!

I went to a Bally fitness to tour.  The man stated I would have 10 days to check out the club for only $5.00 for the card, and if I didn't like the club I could cancel.  I questioned him on the paperwork because it looked like a contract.  He stated that it was the only way to get me into the system, and he wrote $5.00 for card on the top.  I contacted him 8 days after and left a message that I didn't want the membership.  Two weeks later the fitness center closed down, and Bally is holding me to the $1,500 contract.  Unfortunately there is another fitness center close to me, so I can't say there's not one in my area.  Bally fitness will jip you out of every penny it can.

He intentionally deceived you into believing that you could cancel within 10 days, and failed to disclose the very material fact that the very club you were evaluating was about to close.  Basically "bait and switch", and fraud.

He knew that writing "$5.00 for card" on the contract would fool you into believing that was what you were agreeing to and that you could cancel, but that the company would claim all the terms of the multiyear contract were binding and would ignore your claims that you could cancel.

You were intentionally defrauded by someone who knew exactly how to carry out the deception.

    Contact your District Attorney.

I RENEWED WITH BALL'S FOR ONE YEAR WITH MONTHLY DUES BEING TAKEN OUT OF MY CHECKING ACCOUNT.  INSTEAD, BALLY'S TRIED TO TAKE THE ENTIRE AMOUNT FROM MY ACCOUNT.  SHOULD BALLY'S HAVE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR ANY FEES I INCURRED?

Attorney General Abbott Charges Fitness Center Operator With Unlawfully Deceiving Texas Customers
Bally Total Fitness Corp. mailed fake bills to former members

AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today charged Bally Total Fitness Corp. with unlawfully attempting to mislead its former customers into paying “past due” membership fees they do not owe.

Bally Total Fitness Corp., based in California, operates 24 fitness centers in and around the Dallas, Houston and San Antonio areas. An investigation by the attorney general’s office revealed that between summer 2009 and March 2010, Bally mailed more than 11,000 misleading “past due” notices to former members in an attempt to encourage them to rejoin their former gym. The notices created the false impression that former members had outstanding dues that needed to be paid.

I want to cancel the memberships of my family members.  When I joined, we were told that "just let us know 10 days in advance to cancel the membership". Now, I went to desk to cancel and I got the form to fill out and send to Washington.  Now, how my form can reach to Washington office within 10 days?  You guys are smart to drag the memberships for an extra month.  Looks like you do not appreciate the business people are giving to you.  You are trying to make things harder and harder for your customers so they never come back.  Why we can not cancel the memberships where we started?  What the problem with that.  I joined Bally first time and this experience will never make me come back.  Sorry.  Bally.

Anyway, today, I mailed 3 cancellation forms and next month I will maile one more and our complete family will be out.  I thinks such things will make Bally management happy.  At least someone will be happy i.e. Bally.  Because your customers are not happy.

However, I am going to cancel my bank card so bally don't get money anymore and same thing others can follow and save money.

I hope Bally make cancellation procedure easy,if they like they are customer friendly.

That is what happened to me. They say one thing and do another. Also, they have differing information at differant points in the contract. I looked at cancelation fees on mine and in one area (the one I say) it said I could cancel at anytime (no mention of having to mail then notice that I wanted to cancel). Later in the contract it mentions the shorter walk in and cancel fee and the having to write in to cancel otherwise. This is such a scam. I have told all my friends on the games I play about the scam. I have told all my friends and anyone that will listen to me for five minutes to tell them my tale. I am disabled and this is just too much. I take care of a disabled child and don't even have time to go to their filthy club with it's rude employees, that treat me like I have no right to be there.
