Credit Card Balance from 2008

my case has been closed since 2010, was paid and now they come telling me I have to pay again, I no longer hae these receipt and cannot prove, want to keep my records clean so I will pay, but after 15 years?  where is the time limitations? Am afraid they find plenty of folks who just pay to keep their records clean.
