Machine agitates before filling with water.

I am exhausted with this machine.  I can not depend on the washer from one load to the next as the washer agitates before filling with water.  I have tried unplugging it and restarting it as Maytax suggested.  This does not work!!!  This machine is certainly what I expect from Maytag.  My machine was purchased in 2011.
