Ripping/tearing clothes

I have a Whirlpool Duet washer that is six years old, about a month ago I washed a comforter and it came out torn with grease stains.  At first I thought it was a fluke but then yesterday I did a load of regular clothes and one of my T-shirts came out with the sleeve ripped up and grease stains.  I called Whirlpool and of course they have no recall and do not really acknowledge that this is a problem.  They offered a repair/warranty package that would cost $300, it would be cheaper to go and buy a new washer that's not Whirlpoo.
