Caller thanks me for previous donation I did not make

Hello,
I have received 4 calls over the last few months from fundraising call centers that are working for valid charity organizations. Each of these calls started by thanking me for my previous donation and asking me if they could count on me for continued support. I have never given money to any of the organizations. When I told them that, they said that their computer info listed me as having done so. In two cases, when I pressed the issue, they hung up on me. In two other cases, I was told that they get their info from Database America or CD America. In each of those cases, when the "supervisor" went to get me more info about those companies, I was cut-off. I can't find any way to get in touch with these list sellers, but they may be fabricating information that the call centers use to hook you.

They are probably calling from some list they bought, as the other two indicated, but they failed to scrub the list against registered Do Not Call numbers, so they start with their "excuse" that they thought you had made a previous donation, so they can claim the Do Not Call list doesn't apply.
Warning: Telemarketers who cold-call for alleged charities often take most of the proceeds for their own "costs". Just because they say they are collecting for a charity you think you have heard of does not mean that charity is significantly benefiting from your donation.
