I spoke with Cindy a supervisor at this company at 7:27 AM this morning 12/10/2008. She told me that I ordered a memership with them on the 16th of December, and after getting upset with her and telling her that I have never ordered anything from them. She told that that this was with various companies that send coupons for grocery items etc. I want to know how this company got my name, address and bank account number. I DID NOT ORDER ANYTHING ONLINE FROM ANYONE. I asked her to put my money back in my account and she said that it would take 3-5 days. I told her that I wanted this money put back in my account today. 12/19/08. I will file a fraud report at my bank this morning.

These "membership club" companies typically get your account information from other on-line retailers, who pass along customer billing information allowing them to put through the charges. Sometimes the alleged "authorization" is hidden in fine print, and sin some cases, it may even be on links hidden in fine print, indicating that the retailer intended that consumers NOT see what they would later allege they had agreed to. Some complaints have even claimed consumers found some check box checked by default, unchecked it, and still got charged. Other complaints allege the company claims the consumer agreed to the charges, but they also claim they cannot determine or disclose through what "partner" that "authorization" was obtained. Basically a scam.
In the future, do NOT use checking accounts or debit or check cards for making on-line or retail purchases. Use only credit cards for that purpose, as the protections are stronger and it is less disruptive to close and change the account in case of fraud.
