If you need home renovations, stay away from Sears Home Central !!
In fact, stay away from Sears altogether.

They now call themselves Sears Home Services.  Don't be fooled by a name change.  It's the same crowd who botched my roof job, with the same lousy attitude.

June 20, 2002, 25-year roof shingles and attic vents installed by Sears Home Central. They installed the ventilation improperly, causing premature deterioration of shingles, also water infiltration as a result of ice dams. I had requested that they make sure there was proper ventilation at the time of contract.

I called Sears rep the next day to express concern about the placement of Maxi Vent.  It is half way down the roof. The rep, Ken Campbell, looked from the ground, from one side, never went up on the roof, never checked for blocked soffits or other vents interfering with the Maxi vent.  Still he said it was good enough. Against my better judgment, all I could do was hope for the best.

That summer, I noticed excessive falling off of granules from shingles, a sign of trouble.

July 11, 2009, I noticed shingles becoming bare, curling and breaking. I called Sears Home Central to report this. It took several calls before someone got back to me.

July 31, Sears sends an inspector to have a look. Without hesitation, he informs me that the ventilation was not properly installed, that this was causing excessive heat buildup in the attic, and it was Sears' fault. He told me that Sears would fix the ventilation and replace the shingles at no cost to me.

Meanwhile, I visit Maxi Vent website and found, according to their very clear instructions, that indeed the ventilation was all wrong.

Since that time, Sears has flatly refused to fix anything.  All I get from Corporate Customer Service and the local manager in Ottawa is excuses, untruths and gobbledegook.

This is the most deplorable and shameful performance I have seen in my life. STAY AWAY FROM SEARS !!!

    Hi Evy,

I too have had to deal with a poorly installed roof that left us with severe mold growth in our home. Have you had any luck recovering the cost of the original roof installed by Sears.

Same Here.  The line on the contract says home owner is responsible for ensuring proper roof venting to protect warranty (As if I would have  clue as to what i should look for) so I had sears replace the roof vents and we added additional soffits vents.

It started to fail after only 4 years. But now they point back to the clause that says I am responsible for ensuring the roof vents - that the improperly vented roof was the probable.  WHAT THE HELL DID I PAY THEM FOR?

Sears does not honor their warranty event though they were paid to ensure the vents were done right.

sears home services salesmen misleads u in their roof sales presentation. contract is done on a cd for your computer.mine malfuctioned making it unable for u to read your contract. also making it to late to cancel in 3 days notice. now u are in a binding contract. sears did not mention fine print in their contract or fine print of manufactures material being used.mfg.only guarantees u a good roof shingle. if installed not to mfg.specs. like mine an most likely all roofs. mfg.voids their product warranty .salesmen does not tell u that.

my roof was installed by their  sub contractor an failed county code inspection 3 times.sears management ignored me on installation issues after multiple phone calls.managed to contact a state senator about my problem. only after that did sears respond. they had to remove a brand new shingled roof do to improper installation . i documented the complete installation of the roof .also did the same the second time.pictures of shingle nailing.sheathing drip edge ridge vents also video. pictures dont lie.new contractor for second reshingle tried to scam me on plywood that was to be repaired caught him with pics. roof is installed just as bad as first time.if not worse.passed code inspection.they are unable to see how shingles are nailed after the sun beats on them. code does not care about shoddy workmenship  code is immune from prosecution. .both contractors did damage to my ceilings.both say it was not their men. contractor says men were not in attic they were in there to remove nails that miss trusses.i have video of them coming out of attic. in my opinion how can u trust a company that hires contractors that lies an are unable to install a roof to code an mfg.spec. SEARS u are the most shameful misleading co.  Florida residents if u have to have a roof done avoid the SEARS
