They have a long history of complaints of sending out "erroneous" bills to people who do not owe them, and then putting barriers in the way of consumers disputing.  In addition, they lost a lawsuit over deceptive letters sent in response to validation requests.

Send them a letter disputing the alleged debt, and mail it certified so you have proof you sent it timely.  If you send it within 30 days of receiving their first dunning letter, they must cease all collection activity until they obtain and sent you proof.

If you have further problems, file complaints with FTC, and your state Attorney General, and contact a consumer attorney.

FDCPA allows courts to award attorney fees, so there are attorneys who take these cases on contingency.  You might try www.naca.net

      Contact a consumer attorney.

Their pattern of violations is becoming well known, so you may find a consumer attorney interested in a class action lawsuit.

The 2008 3 state lawsuit over their deceptive validation request response letters was filed by Edelman and Combs, in Chicago.

You might contact them, at edcombs.com

John Watts, at alabamaconsumer.com, is also familiar with their antics, having filed lawsuits against them alleging "parking" of false information on consumer credit reports.

AFNI can only deal with the information its client gives to them. Maybe the problem isn't AFNI, but the company who hires them to do the work that they don't want to, so they can deny the dirty work and put the blame on AFNI. AFNI is only as good as its client will allow them to be in providing accurate information, resources, and the proper tools/systems to work with. What I really love is that the clients' own employees will deny affiliation with AFNI...leaving AFNI to hold the bag and wondering what the heck is going on. The crooks are the companies who hire AFNI, NOT AFNI itself.
