Zombie Debt Collectors Unfairly Target Vulnerable Populations
Complaint
Debt Deception
Country: United States
Zombie debt collectors unfairly target black and Latino consumers, as well as individuals from moderate to lower socio-economic groups. It’s true injustice to target specific populations because of a disparity in access to legal resources. Attention FTC this type of victimization must cease!
The most vulnerable in society must be afforded protection against illegal and questionable debt collection practices.

High levels of improper service by process servers results in high levels of default judgements, that allows the collection industry to game the court system by inflating the debts and resulting judgements since they can count on most cases resulting in unopposed default judgments.
Around that time the NY AG investigated a process server company for systematic "sewer service", resulting in around 100K default judgements being thrown out.
This isn't a problem limited to just New York, but at least they are starting to do something about it.

The recent robosigning scandals, including cases of "creditors" foreclosing who didn't even have a mortgage on the house in question shows that the whole legal system has been corrupted.
