2waytraffic scam

Complaint

Rogers facilitates the scammers by allowing their cell phone customers to unwittingly be charged a fee for games and contests that are sent to their customers cell phones. Rogers prepays the scammers and then bills their customers. Rogers says that in order to get the charges reversed, the customer has to contact 2waytraffic in the U.S. Since 2waytraffic has already been paid, they just laugh as they do not have to collect.
Will be cancelling all Rogers services shortly. Have convinced 2 others to switch as well. Should cost Rogers about $1200 per year, all for a $25 scam. Have also been calling 2waytraffic every day on their 1-800 number. Kinda fun

    Hi,

This is Chris at Rogers. Third-party SMS services like the one you mention require a double-opt in.

To receive Premium SMS messages, you would need to begin the enrollment - either by sending a text message to the short code or online through a website.

Usually the instructions ask you to text a certain word or phrase to the short code (example: "Text FUN to 5555 to receive your daily dose of jokes"). You will then receive a free administrative SMS, detailing pricing, SMS frequency and a website address for more information.

You will be required to reply to this message to finalize the subscription service (example: The text may say "Reply YES to begin receiving messages"). This ensures that someone cannot inadvertently or accidentally register someone else.

If you subscribe online, to verify the handset, a PIN code is sent to the device, and you verify your subscription by entering the PIN online. This ensures that someone cannot inadvertently or accidentally register someone else.

To opt out, you can reply STOP to the messages you're receiving, or contact the third-party directly. Their number is found on your invoice (in the Third Party section) and you should be able to opt out through their IVR or by speaking to one of their customer service reps.

    Hope this is helpful.

The North American (United States and Canada) Cell Phone Carrier industry and their Associations made business decisions based on their forecast PSMS/CSC revenues, to conspire in the development of fraudulent business practices and models which created an environment that permitted the ongoing daily extortion of Fraudulent PSMS/CSC charges which were applied to Carrier Customers monthly cell phone bills. Carriers further conspired to insure the environment would minimize their exposure to accountability and liability to their Shareholders, Regulators, Prosecutors, Authorities and their own Customer Cell Phone user base, Customers Children and Customers Families. Carriers are now blaming their own customers and refusing to help them. This is nonsense. This is their biggest mistake and now their clients are demanding an investigation and prosecution of these felony criminal activities. These fraudulent participants have also violated all aspects pertaining to their fiduciary responsibilities to their Shareholders, Regulators, Prosecutors, Authorities and their own Customer Cell Phone user base, Customer’s Children and Customer’s Families.

I don't think it is your best interest to stick with this explaination. I have taken a look at a few of the complaints and suggestions posted here and one of them is impressive both in their details and growing success. Just take a look at Carrier Petition and tell us what you now think.

Hi Chris, unfortunately many "premium SMS" companies simply ignore the double opt-in rule.

Rogers in turn facilitates this fraud by paying the companies, and refusing to refund or even try to protect their defrauded customers.

My own experience with Rogers (refund denied) has lead me to note that Rogers has far more short code fraud complaints than other companies. This is suspicious at best.

I had a little over a $400 credit on my closed account with Rogers. Since I no longer had the debit card I'd used to pay the unearned fees, I called Rogers, requested a check, and was told it would take about 30 days. 60 days later, no check in the mail. It appears to me to be an intentional fraud by this unscrupulous company.

Re: Chris... that's not so with this 2waytraffic they only told me about the monthly fees after the third or forth question. They prompted me to continue for the 15K I had to subscribe, I immediately called the number and spoke to someone about this and they assured me I was not subscribed. Furthermore Rogers bills monthly not weekly so how is a customer supposed to find out before being charged a whole month for this ridiculous service. Its also funny how this American company got my unknown number that I cannot get on any directory on the internet (I know I tried)?? Hmmmmm.....I had the displeasure of dealing with this company this evening, I spoke to a very cocky gentleman by the name of Dave who told me I was a liar and that I didn't call them to tell them I wasn't interested. So Chris on behalf of the Rogers customers who are already overcharged with lots of extra fees from you, dont give our unknown numbers to shady American scam artist....Thanks

    Hi Chris:

I have apparently been scamed since last September, without my being aware of it.

I can not get anyone either the people at 2waytraffic or Rogers to take the $25.00 off my bill for this month.  I will pay all the rest of what is owing on this bill but I am not going to pay the $25.00. Rogers should notify people when they see this come up on a bill when it is not usually there.  Also why would Rogers pay first and then bill me.  I certainly would not do that in my own finances.  I am sorry but I am leaving it up to you to retrieve the money.  I have also put a stop on this subscription.

By what I have read on the web page this is happening a lot.  If you can not fix this then I will talk with our local police and the fraud departement.

Thank you in advance for looking into this matter.

Unfortunately the charges don't come from Rogers, they're coming from <insert premium SMS company here>. usually if you reply STOP to the number you're getting these messages from, it'll stop it. If not (and this is rare) you would need to call in and say so. Usually this results in as ticket and some kind of a credit. But you do need to call in to say you're replying STOP (so Rogers will have it documented). Also this documentation can result in fines against <insert premium SMS company here> if it's found that they are charging you unfairly.

I have read some internet posting about these scams and it has been stated that the carriers, and Rogers is a carrier, bill their own customers on behalf of third party companies then Rogers splits the charges equally with the companIES. NOW TELL ME THIS ISN'T A SCAM.

Just got off the phone with Alejandro at Rogers and Mike at 2WayTraffic..... what a scam!  No one can speak to my problem and no one can reverse the charges.  I never use my phone for texting, in or out, and yet I have these mysterious charges on my phone bill.  This will be resolved or Rogers will lose another customer.  Where is the federal regulators?  This is like living in Nigeria.
