White residues on dark clothes

We inherited this washer when we bought our house and even then it was less then 2 years old.  I noticed that whenever dark clothes are washed there is white residue on them that actually leaves a stain when dried. I have washed then as though it was a heavy load, double rinsed, run numerous times through the clean cycle with affresh and use HE detergent since the day we moved in and nothing has helped.  The clothes never really smell clean especially in the arm pit section.  There are times that I have washed shirts and the smell of deodorant is though the shirt was just worn. I waste more time and water washing them because of this and honestly I don't need my well kicking on that much because this washer cannot clean clothes. There has be an issue with the washing machine as I have seen many complaints pertaining to this.
