No.  You were scammed.  If you paid by credit card, contact your bank to see if you can get your money back.  Also, have them issue you a new card and cancel the old one.

This garbage started calling my mother last July looking for me. I found out in August. Their number changes weekly. They spoof local numbers. They ask for info like ss numbers address. They are a zombie debt collection company. They purchase old debt for pennies on the dollar that you can’t go to court over. Due to status laws but can still ask for it. They have called me for 7 months. Everytime I call them out on their bs. In 7 months if they were going to serve they would have done it already. Dare them to serve see how quick they hang up.

When they call tell them to send what they want you to understand in writing and you will respond in kind.  Tell them that "this is not a refusal to pay but a demand that they validate the debt in writing."  Follow up with the demand to contact you in writing only.  These are the steps to take to setup for Fair Debt Collection Practices Act violations.  If you refuse to pay without asking for validation, they will use that as an admission that the debt is valid and it can make getting a judgement against you easier.  If you tell them to never contact you this opens them up to being able to file suit as they have no other recourse.  Never agree to pay a collection agent as they are a third party intervener and you are never contractually obligated to pay a party who is not specifically named on the contract that you sign.  Lastly look up a Request For Validation Form on the internet and send it by Certified Mail to the Collection Agent and demand it be filled out in full before dialog continues.  This works almost 100 percent of the time and they go away.

They have called my cell phone 5 times in two days asking and threatening one of my mental health clients, threatned to come to her job to her home.  I CALLED them and threatned to contact the FBI, the guy immediately apologized and hung up before I could get any further.  I immediately filed complaints with both California and Texas attorney generals as well as the FBI for threatening my clients
