We have received several phone calls from this Northland Group.  The number on the caller ID is different from the one left in the message.  I called both numbers since they were toll free.  I got two different people saying they were with this company.  As soon as they answered I hung up.  I looked up both phone numbers on the internet.  Neither one could be found.  They're looking for my sister-in-law who lives in another state.  I figure it's a scam and will be reporting it to our state attorney general's office and the FTC. We've been getting calls from several so called companies such as this. I know we don't owe anything and neither does my sister-in-law.  It's just another way for somebody to get your personal information and money out of you.

Your sister-in-law would be wise to pull her credit reports to make sure some collection agency has not confused her with another person and put damaging account information on her reports.  If so, the sooner she starts disputing errors through the credit reporting agencies, the sooner she will likely stop credit damage that might result in higher rates from other creditors.

As for the calls you are receiving, send a letter, certified return receipt requestd, notifying Northland Group that they are calling your number (xxx-xxx-xxxx) apparently to reach someone else, and that they are to cease communications with you as provided for in FDCPA.

If they keep calling, file complaints against them with FTC, your state AG, and the Minnesota AG.
