I purchased a Chateau D'Ax leather sofa in August 2009 from the Fine Furniture Gallery in Kennesaw Georgia for $1200. In April, they sent a technician to install additional heavy duty straps to support the cushions that were sagging. They assured me that this fixed the problem. We even video taped the technician installing the staps. In March 2010, the sofa had the original sags and was getting worse. I contacted the store who told me I was beyond my original 1 year warranty. I was pissed. They just bought themselves time. I contacted the local Chateau D'Ax Representative Bill Smith and asked for his help. He asked that I send him a letter outlining the issue with photos. About a month later I recieve an email response back from Bill stating that neither the company or the store is going to do anything. I am beyond the warranty.

This sofa is a piece of junk and not worth the price you pay for it. If I had paid only a couple of hundred, I could understand. Actually, I have bought items that were less, but held up better than this sofa for many years.

Additionally, I was told the sofa was made in Italy. When I received the sofa, it had no label on it at all as to where it was made, like the one in the store.

My recommendation to anyone considering this company and it's dealers, should beware and steer clear.

I just received delivery of my Chateau d'ax sofa and couch.  The instruction manuel suggests cleaning with a mild synthetic detergent. I thought that leather furniture should be cleaned with leather cleaner.  The sofa and couch did not smell like leather.  Nothing on the document says that the upholstery is leather.  I beginning to think that the upholstery is not leather.

I purchased my four piece set in 2002. I have not had any problems with my sofa. I purchased my set from Art van furniture and it still have the original label stating made in Italy. I also purchased a dining room set that also is still in good condition.  I have three children that sit and lay on the set every day without sagging cushions. Don't know what has happen since I purchased my set but I was actually looking to buy another but Art van doesn't carry this brand any longer and what they do carry doesn't look as good of quality as what I have already.  Might just be the economy pushing manufacturers to make cheaper quality to be more affordable.  I'm willing to pay more for better quality

Has anyone purchased the Propensity Line from Chateau?  We are about to make a deal on it but I'm worried after reading all of these posts.  The store (HOM) assures me they have sold them for years and never have any issues.

Our Chateau d'ax set includes sofa, loveseat, reclining chair and leather ottoman is now 6+ years old and is located in our main living room.  We use it every night along with our two kids that are about the same age as our sofa set.  It has held up extremely well.  We have been very pleased.  The full set was roughly $2400 back in Jan 2006.  Not sure of the line but it is dark brown with rivets on the arms.

Tags indicate all parts are from Italy except product assembly and frame from Romania.

I purchased a Chateau D'AX three piece sectional from Macy's years ago--at least five.  In all fairness, we are a family of five, and this is used constantly in our family room and has held up quite well.  I am surprised at the negative reviews here.  The only problem is that there is a separation of the top where the pillow back and the frame meet (the stitching came undone, I think because my kids would lie on top of that part, like a cat would).  Also, there is a part where you're supposed to put the screws in so the pieces would stay together is missing on one.  This wasn't a big deal until recently when the flooring changed and it wouldn't stay together.  I take responsibility for that as I didn't even noticed this when it was delivered.  I did noticed on the tag that this was made in Italy, if that makes a difference.  Overall, I am very satisfied with this purchase.

We are considering the Chateau D'Ax "Gino Power Recliner Loveseat" (only available in brown leather) now on special at Macy's for $1313 (from $1949) plus tax and 7 year premium Buyer Protection with "Uniters" for an additional $279... full replacement and if not used, receive a voucher for this full amount to be used at Macy's.
Anyone have experience with this sofa? with the power recliner mechanism? We experienced a power recliner sofa at Scandanavian Designs, ad the mechanism seemed much smoother. Unfortunately, the loveseat looks like 2 recliners grafted together and much smaller, too. The look of the "Gino" is much better! A++ for design, but how about functionality and durability?
Thanks for any experiences and comments!

Hi-- Same experience with Scandanavian Design (looked like 2 recliners slapped together to make a love seat-- not very attractive!)
The Macy's (exclusive) Gino is a good size, comfortable enough (could use more lower back support), does not have "chunky" arms, and all in all looks quite nice and fits in the space we have for it.
The Gino was delivered 2 weeks ago (first week of August, 2013) and it REALLY smells AWFUL.. like leather and chemicals..  even after 2 weeks. There is plenty of ventilation.. 3 doorways and open windows. Even so, I can smell it from the doorway. Sitting on it for any length of time becomes very unpleasant. The smell never dissapates, even increases in intensity over time sitting on it.
LUCKILY I called Customer Service about the strong odor on the 4th day post delivery. Apparently the buyer has 3 days to contact them regarding any problem or else there is a 15% restocking fee if it is returned or even exchanged. The Macy's rep was willing to slip this problem in as an exchange without the restocking fee. There were none available to exchange until mid- September. So, in the meantime, she thought that perhaps it would stop smelling by then (this will be 5 weeks from delivery date.) If all is good, I can cancel the exchange. I also have the "NO WORRIES" protection plan, but apparently smell is not included in the mechanism or leather damage replacement.
My husband worked in a furniture store selling mid-range priced leather sofas and chairs. He said that when leather is not properly tanned and cured and if it is rushed to craft furniture, this can happen. He explained also that Italian companies started contracting with China to manufacture furniture per Italian designs (e.g. Natuzzi) even tho the parent company in Italy retained the name, these pieces are manufactured in China...
Anyone have this problem with their Gino leather furniture... in particular the Gino loveseat? Would love to hear other experiences..positive or negative!

We purchased the Dylan 3 piece sectional leather sofa from Macy's about 15 months ago, the manufacture is Chateau D'AX also, well we have noticed that it is already fading in the area's we sit, and on the storage section were are arm rest!!  When we wipe over this particular section (with leather cleaner) the color comes off, the color is Espresso, (dark brown) the areas that are fading are now a dark plumish color.  I am very disappointed in this we spent over $4,000 on this section retail was $6,000.  Also, the two reclines, in which we sit the most are starting to look like they are sagging a little.  This is absolutly ridiculous, and of course Macy's won't do anything because we are past our 1 year warrenty.  We are going to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.  I will NEVER by this brand again or from Macy's.

Yup. I bought a Chateau D'Ax leather sofa as well in 2007, a screaming deal at Macy's for a pathetic $599 + $75 delivery. I asked about quality, got canned replies, so I already had a hunch about this long heavy sofa. I was also aware by 2007, the modern 50's looks were making a slow comeback thanks to Swedes who know what cheap should look like. Sofa styles changed fast to modern-looks during the Recession.

Macy's wanted to get rid of this thing FAST, and I went along with it.  5 years later, the middle cushion is cracked and peeling like scabs off my toes. The other 2 cushions are ok but starting to go. (No sunlight exposure btw, it's far from windows)

With TLC, treatment, slipcovers, the cushions would have lasted a decade but no more than that, methinks.
The frame, however, is great! Strong, heavy, sturdy, an absolute [***] of a time to haul into a truck. A reminder that cheap sofas today you can kick away like an office chair. Not a Chateau D'Ax, chinese or not

I plan to re-upholster the 3 bad cushions with beige or brown microfiber and call it good. For those with worse conditions, consider cutting out all cushions, replace with brand new microfiber seat cushions with 4 large decorative pillows for backing, red/grey/brown/etc mix colors. Get creative!

The Chateau d'Ax leather sofa I purchased is literally falling apart after 3 years of regular use.  Do not under any circumstances purchase this company's products.  It is junk.

My wife and I are looking to buy a leather set and in our price range are considering the Natuzzi Ricardo Motion Sofa, Love Seat, and possibly the Chair. Maybe my eyes are deciving me but it seems as if the co. Chateau D'Ax is not a crowd favorite so we'd just assume advoid them without even considering. We shopped around a bit but a lot of the stores selling leather are waaaay too expensive (3k+ for just a sofa) for a young family w a 22 month old son.  I've seen some talks of the Ricardo set from Natuzzi on here and wanted to get just a few more opinions from those you have the set, or know of the quality from Natuzzi. I think the 3 piece set will be right around $4200 w the "sale" 10% addition discount, tax, delivery, ect. Looking to buy at Macy's. At the age of 32 I realize you more often then not "get what you pay for," but am hoping to get some reassuring news from you all that at that price range and w Natuzzi's overall quality I should be ok. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Dylan

i purchased several chateau d'ax sofas and chairs today at Macy's and I'm afraid to bring them home!!!  Maybe I should take a look again after reading about them and all these comments.  Looks as though only 1 percent of purchasers are satisfied.  Not enough for me to spend my money!

You haven't taken delivery on it so go back and recheck it because once you take delivery it's another loss of you "time,  money, and frustration to return it.  If you keep it, it's a 50/50 chance you won't have any problems.... and they seem to show up after a year when the warranty expires.

I purchased my furniture in 2009 at ArtVan Furniture in Westland, Michigan.  I have the same problem with sagging and one seat cushion very over filled since the other are sagging.  I love the color and style but other than that it leaves a lot to be desired.   VERY DISAPOINTED

I purchased a used Divani Chateau d'Ax couch on Craigslist in 2010.  The tag says made in 2003.  I couldn't be happier with the couch.  It's aging wonderfully.  Anyone who buys a leather couch and expects it to look showroom fresh for its entire life must know nothing about buying leather.  Leather ages, marks, "scratches" and looks used over time.  My dark brown sofa is turning out a great patina look that adds so much incredible character!  I'm finding no splitting, cracking or anything issues besides natural leather wear. When I told a friend I paid $250 for the couch he was floored.  This is a quality product that is going to continue to last for a long time.  Granted my dog is not allowed on the furniture, we don't have kids yet and I like to take care of my possessions.  This piece of furniture is something that is going to stay with me for a long time.
