of sending email to my U.S. Senator urging her to support the
bill currently in committee, S.30 Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009.

Another bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives:
H.R. 1258: Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009

All of these relentless, unsolicited calls offering to "reduce your
credit card interest rate" or "car warranty" offers use Caller ID
spoofing. This means it is virtually impossible to track them down
from a consumer standpoint. Law enforcement must get involved, followed
by the courts to catch and penalize the perpetrators.
I urge anyone who has received these calls to contact your members
of congress, urging THEM to pass legislation to help stop this practice.
It is very easy to send email to your representatives, as most will have
web sites with a 'Contact me' link.
I've filed complaints with the Do Not Call registry and the FCC before
but since these numbers are 'spoofed' I doubt that there is much that
these agencies can do about this menace.
