On January 5th I called and canceled my service with Direct TV.  I received my bill for January on 1/10/2010 which included the time frame 12/30/2010 - 1/29/2011.  I called Direct TV to inquire what the prorated bill would be since I had canceled on 1/5/2011.  I was told that prorated portion of the bill would be $2.94 in addition to the $473.19 I owed for an upgrade to service which automatically extended my contract and or services for this upgrade.  The only service I authorized was a switch to HD which I was told during the phone call to Direct TV was free.  This $473.19 was never verbally communicated nor put in writing to me.  As a result I do not feel I owe Direct TV the $473.19

Looked on my account to check my balance to discover that direct TV had made an unautherized debit from my account in the amount of $583.00. I contacted directv to see what was going on, since I had canceled my service after doing business with the company for over 5 years. So I was not under any new contractual obligations. Upon speaking to a rep on the phone, they told me that because I had previously used my card to pay my bill before, that they could debit my account. However I never gave any verbal or written primission to do so. Nonetheless, the rep told me of I would come back that they would credit the full amount back to my account. Really! So now companies are bulky you to keep there service!!!!! I have contacted my bank to dispute it! I pray that they fix this! I will never do business with them ever, I hope no one does!!!!!!

You have a way out replies to Michael Hollis
Just had the same experience as the previous poster.  Called my bank (Bank of America) who reversed the charges and put a stop payment flag on any future transactions from Direct TV.

Call your bank.  They cant charge your card without asking just because they used it one time before.

Good luck Felicia and stop your debit card now. I never got a warnin and 1065$ was debited from my account to pay someone else's bill because I let them use my card in the past that they gave me money for. Direct tv is a joke and now I am waiting to see if I will be credited that money.

Direct TV just charged my account $829.19. I called and talked to a rep and I asked me if I let someone use my card to pay their bill. I said no and they said they have to investigate it would take approximately 10 business days unacceptable.

Just woke up to the same thing. Direct tv pulled $700 (its rounded) from our bank this morning with no authorization and now after contacting the bank. The wife has to get a new debit card mailed to her and we have to go in and do a whole fraud investigation before we can get our money back they said it can take up too 90 days.  The only reason we got direct tv was because of a promo with AT&T and even then we never got what they promised us. Don't recommend them at all.

I also have gotten charged by direct tv for service so never had.  I put in a dispute with my master card from ULTA which I would never recommend they said I lost the dispute because direct tv said I had their service and I would have to go back to direct t.v. for resolution.  I did and got nowhere.  I have called channel 8 better call Behnkem for help
