My son was 17 years of age and Bally's signed him up for a contract.  Now that he is 18 and was not able to pay, they put the remaining balance on his credit report.

He may be able to cancel the contract within a year of turning 18.  It may also depend on whether he used the facilities after turning 18.

Check with an attorney.  If this is one of Bally's typical multiyear contracts, he has several thousand dollars at stake.

You may also want to check with the local District Attorney, as signing up minors to contracts might be an unfair business practice and a violation of state law and public policy.

This is what is going through me right now. My mom and cousin had enrolled me at Bally's about 3 years ago.. and they had this promotion for a 30 day or 60 day trial and then we can cancel if we didnt like it.. I was only sixteen at the time and when we called to cancel they said yeah no problem. Then just as I turned 18 I got a collections letter for 1600 dollars.. and then they came after me just this year when the collections agency found out I opened up a credit card... I am currently fighting them and filing different paperwork to clear it up.. now my credit is messed up because of Bally.. wheat go me mad was that i didn't even go to the gym that often maybe a total of 3 times during the free trial...

The best thing to do is call the collections agency, like I did and tell them the details and let them know that if nothing is going to be done it will be brought up to an attorney because as I found out through my lawyer, it is illegal for gyms to enroll people under the age of 18. and what they did charging me for the 1600 even way before the trial ended was a type of theft on their part.

Just enroll at 24 hour fitness there i got no problems what so ever.
