they are trying to sue me!

I tried to cancel my membership when I was moving from Seattle for lack of financial support.  They said I couldn't  and would still have to pay. I went round and round explaining I had no money give. I gave ample time and they refused my termination. Now 9+years later I received a phone call from an attorney  telling me I owe them 7,000 dollars. Is this a joke????
