I've had a Duet Sport Washer since May 2007.  I had a major problem with it mechanically, and in October 2010, the extended warranty company sent me a check for 75% of cost of a new washer.  Because I have the Duet Sport dryer stacked on top, I was forced to buy the Duet Washer again.  I preferred not to.  In January of this year (2013), a valve in the machine needed replacing.  In February, the machine started to leak water from the front.  The serviceman found a hole in the rubber door seal.   He replaced the door seal with a different type that leaves a good 1/2 opening between the tub and the inside of the machine.  Yes, you guessed it.  Just like too many other Whirlpool customers, my machine ate a large sock that a repairman found in the pump last week.  Today, it almost swallowed a sock but I caught it.  Also today, it tore holes in a new T-shirt of my husband's and in a large gym sock.  Strange plastic bits were stuck to the sock, as well.  I also found plastic bits in the bed of the seal last week. At first, I thought it was the different configuration of the rubber door seal, because with the first rubber seal design I had no problems I was aware of. However, I suddenly remembered not finding the mate to 3 pairs of socks, a few months ago.  Obviously they are floating in the Potomac.   So, it isn't the door seal.  It is very obviously a serious design flaw that Whirlpool has chosen to ignore.  Here I go again calling the extended service plan company.  I'm sure they'll have some ridiculous excuse for it, when they come to look at the washer.  In the meanwhile, I am afraid, like so many  other writers, on this complaint site,  to use my washing machine for anything.  What are we supposed to do?

My Whirlpool Duet Sport has been eating my clothes for the past year.  It seems to be a design flaw.  The clothes either get sucked into the intake, clogging the hole causing the water to flow out the front of the machine, or they get sucked all the way down to the pump itself, clogging the outlet (into the designed cage to stop the clothing from going any further.)  It will probably be time for a new washer since this one is over seven years old, bought in 2006.
