They are a gang of con men/extortionists, who use the phone to threaten people, supposedly for "unpaid payday loans". The West Virginia Attorney General issued a warning about them a couple of years ago, and ABC News did a story on them at that time.
They generally have a thick Indian accent, and use "plain english" phony names, making threats of suing, being attorneys or law enforcement, threats of arrest or prosecution, etc.
They are trying to extort payments of hundreds of dollars out of their victims, through their threats, and there are some indications they may have some old credit report information on U.S. consumers, obtained after the collapse of a U.S. debt collector known for similar threats that had an Indian call center. Their tactics include threats and intimidation, including harassing calls to both home and employers, if they can find it.
Their threats are essentially felony assault, under federal and state statutes, as well as attempted fraud, and plenty of other violations of law. Report them to law enforcement, but it may be difficult to track them down, and they may even be out of the country, but might have associates in the U.S. to help in retrieving wired money.
Many consumers have reported receiving their calls when they know they have no defaulted debts, and even never had a payday loan, so nothing they claim can be trusted, regardless of what information such as SSN or old addresses they spout.
This is a con game and extortion racket, run by an Indian gang of phony "debt collectors". They will make very vicious threats, attempting to panic people into paying them, probably by Western Union or similar, but do NOT believe anything they say. It does not appear they can or will carry out anything, and indeed, there are probably plenty of law enforcement agencies who would like to get their hands on them if they had the opportunity.
Report the illegal threats to law enforcement, and to your phone company, and change your number, while having the phone company NOT provide any forwarding number. Cut off communications.
