Washer lid broke

While washing dishes in the kitchen I heard a loud pop.  My husband heard it too from the living room and we both started looking around to see if we could find what happened.  We found nothing.  Then the next morning when I went to put a load of laundry in my washing machine lid felt heavy and didn’t lift smoothly, like normal.  The lid also moved from side to side. The glass did not break but something snapped causing the lid to malfunction.
