So I went into Bally's to sign up for a month to month membership. Jayson, the sales representative that helped me, was polite and energetic. However, he had me electronically sign on a keypad to verify my address, email, and to add a family member. There were no papers in front of me whatsoever, everything was done with him staring at a computer screen. He charged my debit card for the enrollment fees. After everything was set and done and he had printed out my 'contract' i noticed that my signatures were placed in areas of which I felt were not the ones he had addressed to me. Then he starts to notify me of all the other extra fees that will be taken from my account. At this point, I was mad. He had chosen not to disclose all these vital pieces of information about my membership as well as having me sign for it electronically in other parts of the contract and I demanded a refund at once. He told me that it was too late and that the charge has already been put through so I would have to cancel through corporate. I called and I called and finally they told me to send a letter to P.O. Box 96241 Washington DC 20090 (do not send the letter to the Norwalk address, the cancellations get forwarded to Washington anyways so it will only delay your cancellation) stating that I want a cancellation. They did not ensure a refund. So I sent the letter and as CERTIFIED MAIL so they cannot deny that it was never sent or received. I then called my bank to set up a stop payment/claim against Bally's. Bank of America has a claims department that will dispute this situation for you because B of A actually does the banking for Bally's. I have yet to hear the results but for anyone else trying to cancel their membership, SEND A LETTER CLEARLY STATING A CANCELLATION AS WELL AS A CREDIT TO YOUR ACCOUNT IF NECESSARY AND SEND IT AS CERTIFIED MAIL FOR PROOF. ALSO, CALL YOUR BANK TO SEE IF THEY HAVE A CLAIMS DEPARTMENT TO HELP YOU DISPUTE THIS ISSUE AND PREVENT ANY FUTURE PAYMENTS TO GO THROUGH. AND LASTLY, IF IT WAS A DEBIT CARD YOU PAID WITH, CANCEL (BLOCK) THE CARD AND HAVE YOUR BANK REISSUE YOU A NEW ONE. I have no idea how they are even still up running with all these complaints. Even the people at my bank were telling me about how many claims they have had to file against Bally's. Ridiculous! GOOD LUCK! I really hope this works because I for one definitely want my $200 back.

What you are describing is "bait and switch" combined with contract forgery, due to fraudulently inserting your "electronic signature" into an electronic contract that you had not even seen.

Contact your local District Attorney, as this is a criminal act.
In addition, contact a consumer attorney, as this might be a good RICO class action case.

It has been a month & I am still getting charged even though I sent the cancellation letter in and they received it since I sent it as certified mail. This is ridiculous, I cancelled it the day after I signed up and have never even used any of their services let alone step into their facility. If it comes down to legal action then so be it. I am truly disappointed in Bally's and would NEVER recommend this to anyone. I am so appalled by their dishonesty and I have no idea how they are still in business.

They tried the same with me!  I called about 3 weeks ago and they told me to send a letter to Washington D.C.  I sent the letter and called back recently after I heard nothing from them.  This time I told them that I had sent the letter and they were still charging me.  I told the agent in a very stern tone that this was unacceptable and I was not going to get off the phone until they cancelled.  She cancelled by phone and I received an email shortly after.  I will keep you posted if they charge me again becuase the internet is full of cancellation complaints from this company.  One more thing, the first time that I called and told the agent that I wanted to cancel and he told me the computers were down.  I called one minute after and pressed the option to add a member and mysteriously the computers were working again.  Seems like you can get through to an agent faster this way also.  Don't take no for an answer and tell them to cancel through the phone not that bogus snail mail address they give you.

I just called them again & they said my membership was cancelled over a month ago but I have been charged three times since then and have also received emails asking me to pay my monthly fee. They also won't send me a cancellation notice. This is complete bull. I hope they get shut down trying to take advantage of their customers. THIS IS A COMPLETE SCAM DON'T EVER SIGN UP FOR A MEMBERSHIP FROM BALLY'S THEY ARE JUST GOING TO LIE TO YOU AND CHARGE YOU WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION EVEN AFTER YOU HAVE CANCELLED.

I am trying to cancel the membership as well. I called 1-800 number and followed instructions to talk to a representative, then the call got automatically disconnected on me TWICE. When I did other options to talk to a representative, I was able to get connected!!! (wow!) But as soon as I told him I called to cancel, he became rude and gave me attitude. He told me to send a letter to the Washington DC address. I'm going to do that today with certified mail and call again in few weeks... I'm disgusted by this company, how they make is IMPOSSIBLE to cancel the membership. We have the right to cancel whenever we want; especially, my membership is monthly basis. I'm so not happy!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm the same author as the comment above. I got my membership cancelled in a day. For anyone interested, I believe the best way to contact for membership cancellation would be filling out the "contact us" http://www.ballyfitness.com/contact-us.aspx.
I wrote an angery message about how displeased I was with the process I have to go through in order to cancel a membership. I received an e-mail (3:50's PM) and the membership got cancelled as requested. I did not even have to send a mail to Washington. Too bad I have already mailed it today because I was too pissed to wait. For anyone wishing to cancel the membership, please use that form.

This is an absolutely horrible company.  I want to cancel my membership and stop them from auto charging my card.  On their website they let you put in your card information for auto debit but there is no way for you to take it off.  I have the month to month membership and the only way that I can cancel is by writing and mailing them a letter.  Not that mailing a letter is very difficult but the company is obviously scamming customers if they have the technology to easily allow auto debit and enrollment but they make you mail a letter in order to cancel.

Apparently they are no longer doing letters but slips you can fill out to mail for cancellations. I don't see how this is any better than writing a letter, but whatever. After reading comments from other ex-bally people, I just recently cancelled Ballys. Mailed in the slip with a date. Copied the paper work for my own reference and called my bank to cancel my card. Now, I can only see what happens next. Hopefully, this works.
