they called about $200 gift voucher for gas which can be redeemed at any gas station nationwide, lucrative offer, isn't it. When I asked what's the catch, they said you need to provide us with your authorization to pay $3.99 after I receive the vouchers. I opened up the Internet typed the company name "American Auto Benefits" and got all the scam Information that they are into. When I told him that I'll conference the call with 911 he hung up the phone. Thanks people for putting in your reviews.

The telecom slamming and boiler-room scams led to the Do Not Call laws.
At this point somewhat over half of American households are on the Do Not Call list, and TCPA prohibits ALL autdialed calls to cell phones without prior permission, rendering virtually all cell phones off limits as well.
That means that practically all sales calls most people receive from unknown callers are already intentionally violating U.S. law. They are also likely to be engaged in a scam, attempting to defraud the people they call.
This is a huge scam, NEVER give your credit card number out. I also filed an online complaint with the do not call registry while I had him on the phone wasting his time.

These are scammers. Am new to the country on vacation, when they called i was dumb enough to give them my card details thinking i would suprise my brother with a 200 hundred dollar gas voucher. They repeatedly told me i would not be charged for anything except the 3 dollars shipping fee. When i told my brother about it he told me its a scam and i should call and cancel. I called the customer care number they gave me and cancelled and again they assuared me i would not receive any charges. Two days later my account was charged 61 dollars! I called to complain and a guy told me that i had agreed to the questions which meant i had subscribed (even though i was told repeatedly answering yes does not mean you have subscibed). I was upset and called them scammers. my brother called them again immediately afterward and a lady responded that they would credit back the account after 5 working days. I think they are just trying to stall me. They are scammers!! The authorities should do something about them. At this point am considering the 61 dollars gone and planning to close my account so they dont steal more."
Although they claim you are getting "$200 in free gas" already it's clear it's not as simple as the sales pitch claimed. Assuming they actually pay off at all and don't come up with other excuses for not paying a dime (so far this consumer has received nothing), it appears that at best they are dribbling out some rebate that is barely worth the work it takes to apply for it, even as they appear to be cramming monthly charges that will far exceed any payment you have any chance of receiving, if you even receive anything.
This is a pattern of fraud common with "discount membership" scams: offer some "benefit" that sounds like a good deal to get you to disclose your card number, then when it comes time to pay out, the consumer finds there are all sorts of restrictions, limits, and delays that were not disclosed up front, even as they keep cramming monthly charges. Under the undisclosed "terms", there is no chance you will ever get any benefit that comes close to what it will have cost you in monthly "membership" charges.

Hey, can you tell me how did you use those gas vouchers. I took that offer but nobody there can explain me how to use those. The instructions given in the gas rebate form says that I have to send $100 gas receipt to receive $10 gas rebate check monthly, which is too much of hassle for me to do. Is there any way that the voucher can be used?"
He probably just guessed at the first 4 digits of your VISA card. There are several other reports that this particular scam is using that line to appear "legitimate".
The first 4 digits of all card numbers are based on the bank, and if the first digit is a 4, it's a VISA. Since VISA International is the largest credit card organization, and BofA is the largest U.S. bank, especially in consumer credit, it's easy to guess 4 and be right most of the time. It's even easy to guess 4888 (for BofA VISA), and be right a lot. There are a number of reports of this group of scammers using this same line to get the consumer's confidence.
