non authorized use of debit card

Helped a neighbor out for a one time only set up of $1.00 to my debit card to activate service. Account was never charged for this but in March 2016 they took out $380 for non returned equipment that wasn't even at my home and had never been there. Called them and they wouldn't speak to me because the account wasn't in my name. Well if it isn't in my name then why are you billing me, "sorry we can't speak with you since your name isn't on the account. Filing fraud charges and a police report. Called them again at the request of my bank "yes your name is on the account but we can't speak with you only the other person on the account" CAN"T he is in jail so you have to speak to me. Still won't so I guess it to pursue the fraud and illegal use of a debit card to DISH. Never had then and never will. BIG HEADACHE.

You didn't authorize the charge. Period. And, no, your name isn't "on the account". If it was, they would have to provide you information on the account, and they aren't, so it's not. Nor did you "cosign" the account, so you're not responsible for any amounts due on it. That's just a "red herring", a bit of verbal deception through "confusion", that diverts you from the real issue, which is that the charge isn't authorized.
Since you didn't authorize the charges, dispute it through your bank as unauthorized, and block your card number to prevent further charges. Your bank should be able to reverse the charge if you dispute promptly, under FCBA.
